Yep. It was even better back when I used Opera (Sorry, Zaxxon. I've moved on to FireFox almost exclusively).
In Opera, it was just as simple as typing "g InsertWordHere" since Opera has a shortcut that if you put "G" before the word, it automatically searches Google for that word. That's one thing I wish Mozilla had.

If I had a sig, would you read it?

I use www.dictionary.com for my spell checking, definitions and thesaurus needs.

Name it.
Put a G in the keyword box.
Done.
The %s portion of the URL equals the search term. You can do this with any search engine and link to any keyword you put before the search term in the URL bar.

I used to do that all the time, except with a Google bar in my browser, that's just too much work.
And thanks a lot, Mookee. Worked like a charm. Life is good.

I have mine set up so that typing "dict <word>" does an automatic dictionary .com search for the word, and "google <word>" does a google search.Mookee wrote:It does.Valael wrote:In Opera, it was just as simple as typing "g InsertWordHere" since Opera has a shortcut that if you put "G" before the word, it automatically searches Google for that word. Also cool is that I can just type words straight into the address bar, and Firefox will take me straight t the page with the highest google rank for those search terms, which 49 times out of 50 is the one you wanted.

I first use the Spellbound Extension in Firefox to spellcheck, but that's not the swiftest in coming up with suggestions- I just spelled "popcicle" in a different thread and it came up with no suggestions for the misspelled word. Next step was to use Super Drag and Go to google the word which very easily came up with "Did you mean: popsicle."
She's the puzzle piece behind the couch that makes the sky complete.
