I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Who can explain this one to me?

Second panel.
Look at the first letter of every word, starting with the last word and going back.

This may not be xkcd, but I still feel like it's nerdy enough to belong in this thread, where it will be properly appreciated...

I'd like a shirt of that, or maybe a poster.

A careful reading of official Major League Baseball Rule 6.08(b) suggests that in this situation, the batter would be considered "hit by pitch", and would be eligible to advance to first base.

Shouldn't that be a foul ball? When it reaches the batter, the center of the cloud is still moving at an appreciable fraction of the speed of light. It hits the bat first, but then the batter, plate, and catcher are all scooped up and carried backward through the backstop as they disintegrate.

Re: Another XKCD classic
Maybe he is considering the whole thing as the pitch, not just the ball itself? So while the "ball" hits the bat first, it also hits the batter... and not from a ricochet?
Though you do make an excellent point.

I'd so buy that.
I can't tell you how many times I toss a leftover in the 'fridge only to find it as a slimy mass that got pushed back futher and further over time until the semi-annual cleansing hauls it out.

For such a smart guy, he seems to have missed the inherent issues with discrete measurements being applied to varying time periods, all with the same linear movement.
Ok, not nitpicking, I thought it was funny, it's just that the above stood out for me.

I don't understand this. Everything looks, roughly, to scale to me. Obviously, the belts don't all move at the same speed, but within a belt, the time gaps look proportionate.

He may be assuming they all move on one larger belt in the side. I also think the scales look - roughly - acceptable per belt.PLW wrote:GreenGoo wrote:For such a smart guy, he seems to have missed the inherent issues with discrete measurements being applied to varying time periods, all with the same linear movement.

Well I went all the way to the left and right and I think I explored all of the connected caverns. How much did I miss in the sky, I wonder?

I didn't go all the way to the top of the sky as far as I know, but I did find a balloon and a whale.

I am the laziest guy you ever met but I organize my fridge and all my cupboards just like that, except I do in a back to front rotation. I don't know if it's from working retail and restaurants so much or if it's my aversion to throwing food away but I set up like that and what I eat on a daily basis is largely determined by how close that food is to spoiling.Biyobi wrote:My heart went pitter-patter at the sight of this:
