SMH = Shaking My Head
SMDH = Shaking My Damn? Head
The dress thing was the image that went around with the optical illusion. Wasn't it blue and gold actually? Or something like that? (Queue Isg...)
I've actually used both S Q L and Sequel.
I used two spaces for a LOOONNNNGGGG time. But, in my defense, I also learned to type in the 7th grade (late 70s) on a typewriter. I did finally outgrow it. I think it was from a conversation either here or on GG.
Pretty funny comic.

I think sometimes I vary how I say it depending on who I'm talking to. If they don't work with it, I'm probably more likely to use the letters. Maybe. I'm the same way. I'm having a hard time nailing down why I use what when.

Re: Another XKCD classic
SCSI was originally SASI (Shugart Associates System Interface) but you can't have an ANSI standard with a company name in it. So Larry Boucher—the lead engineer behind the project at Shugart—proposed SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) as a replacement, and he intended the acronym to be pronounced "sexy". But he's pretty much the only person who ever pronounced it that way.

And on that note, getting old is starting to suck in ways that I never imagined. Like getting pissed off by word misusage. Or shitty browser spell checkers that tell me that I'm misspelling a word that I am very certainly not. Or phone auto-correct behaving like a more controlling shitty browser spellchecker.

Re: Another XKCD classic
Sure, but what's next? Air flight lead directly to space flight. What does space flight lead to? Time travel?
We have little handheld devices that do more than the craziest science fiction could dream of during the age of space travel.
That's...pretty good too, I guess?

And that was a huge leap. Unless the web counts we haven't had another huge leap.

Of course the web counts.
We have a thousand things today that we couldn't even conceive of, let alone start working towards when space flight first became a thing.
We have self driving cars, for fuck's sake.

Re: Another XKCD classic
I'm reading an article on my phone about drone sized aircraft using ionic wind for propulsion. Which is all sorts of amazing. Propulsion with no explosions or moving parts is witchcraft to my ancient way of viewing the world.
Apparently not ancient enough though as it appears the phenomenon was first described in the early 1700's.
Will post article later if anyone cares to read about it.

"Symbolic integration" is when you theatrically go through the motions of finding integrals, but the actual result you get doesn't matter because it's purely symbolic.

And because if you just leave it there, it's going to start contaminating things downstream even if no one touches it directly.

It may remain in equilibrium for some time, slowly growing, and then suddenly become significantly redder.
