Heh I'm currently playing RTW. I always end up digging out the old games and having more fun with them then the new ones.

Heck, I never played Rome: TW until my last 6 month deployment from July-December 2007. Then, basically, kept playing it for darn near a year before finally moving on to something else.
Didn't get Oblivion until the GOTY edition with both expansions was released.
The list goes on and on. It's just easier to wait than to try to keep up with what's "new." Of course, the whole multiplayer/server aspect is non-starter as that comic points out.

Re: Another XKCD classic
While the cheap GPS isn't that bad, whatever Ford uses to measure for their Digital only gas gauge stinks to high heaven. 440 miles until empty on my typical tank, an impressive 36.5mpg, better than advertised even. At the top of the tank gas depletes at a rate where I am driving about two miles for every one the readout goes down. And I'm thinking 12 gallon to get 880 miles and all while I have 12 gallons of gas weight in my car! Woot! Thats over 73mpg! However a tank only ever gets me about 380 miles for about 11 gallons or about a disappointing 34.5mpg. (This is diasppointing because my 11 year old Escort, even unto its retirement was getting about 30mpg) But the most annoying thing is that I discovered when the fuel gauge is low, when you need accuracy the most, it is the most useless. If you let it get to 50 mile until empty, the idiot light comes on. From there you literally have about 16 miles to gas up before the gauge empties itself out. I've made it down to 2 mile left in a panic. I have no idea what happens if you hit zero. For all I know, rather than run on fumes, the car goes into a killswitch mode, locks you in, and calls out a hit squad.
I hate the spelling of gauge. It never looks right. Stupid strange places for U's. We should just get rid of them.

The alt-text isn't that funny, so didn't see a need for it seeing as the comic is funny all by itself.
Here it is anyway:

Both of my vehicles that have had "Distance Till Empty" readings hit zero with about 10% left in the tank. I drove a dozen miles in my intrepid with the display on "0". The Sienna goes to zero then takes 18 gallons of gas. It's listed as a 20 gallon tank. YMMV (literally)

That's to prevent the idiots who let it go to zero from running out of gas.Bakhtosh wrote:Both of my vehicles that have had "Distance Till Empty" readings hit zero with about 10% left in the tank. A current events classic
alt text: My biology grad student friends tell me that different types of alchohol don't actually have different effects. I trust their expertise, not because of the 'biology' part, but because of the 'grad student.'
I beg to differ on that 'expertise' from 27 years of personal experience, which is far more than a mere 'grad student' will determine. They don't take into account age, tolerance, and other factors. It does tend to have the same effects, regardless of type, when one is considerably younger.

I identify with that one at work, but the kids I work with haven't figured out I haven't grown up, yet.
