So if the Chicxulub asteroid didn't kill the dinosaurs, what did? Paleontologists have advanced all manner of other theories over the years, including the appearance of land bridges that allowed different species to migrate to different continents, bringing with them diseases to which native species hadn't developed immunity.
An Asteroid didn't kill the dinosaurs maybe swine flu did.

I saw a recent article hypothesizing volcanic activity roughly 300,000 years after Chicxulub.

Maybe Chicxulub was just a distraction.

Wait...I thought it was sexually transmitted diseases that killed the dinosaurs. I can't keep up.

Animals in Space - John Glenn.
I'm guessing they take every opportunity to pimp their slideshows and dead dinosaurs and space rock is enough of a connection for an "Animals in Space" plug.
It works, apparently.

What flood? Dinosaurs lived all ecosystems, not just flood plains. A flood is a local catastrophe, not a global one.Bakhtosh wrote:Could have been The Flood...

I saw a special on Discovery or The History Channel a couple months ago that talked about this. It's really interesting stuff. I don't think any single one of the theories they presented could really account for the fact that a huge number of species - both land and marine - were wiped out, while others survived.

I like this. It implies god made dinosaurs in his image, which sheds a new light on Tyrannosaurus Rex (terrible lizard) and explains millions of years of bad things that have happened since. Too bad there wasn't a Piussaurus Rex to reign supreme instead.dbt1949 wrote:and god made dinosaurs and saw that they were bad and HE said "I shall make a mass distinction of them. And HE did.

Dinosaur is "terrible lizard" (or at least the greek root is). Tyrannosaurus Rex is something like "tyrannical lizard king," which may be more appropriate for your point anyway.Jeff V wrote:I like this. So it's to be a debate then, is it?
The extinction of the dinosaurs has often been traced to a giant space rock impact on the Earth 65 million years ago. But now a scientist is saying experts have blamed the wrong impact. The new thinking was met with sharp criticism from other researchers, however.
