I believe it gains the spark of life, animates, and flies away. Apparently, in some circumstances, the ensoulment mechanism will fail to trigger.

LOL, best recall ever.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed that one.

On a more serious note, check those containers of Similac:
Abbott Laboratories Inc said it is recalling millions of containers of its top-selling Similac powdered infant formulas after beetles were found in the products and in a Michigan plant where they are made.

Abbott said on Wednesday that the voluntary recall, which could cost it $100 million in lost revenue, follows reports by two consumers of contamination, and its inspection of an area of the plant in Sturgis, Michigan, where beetles or their larvae were found. Abbott said "less than 5 million units" of Similac are being recalled in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean markets
...
The recalled products involve powdered Similac in plastic containers, and in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.
They don't want to advertise the lots being recalled, instead they're hosting a lot lookup to see if what you have has been recalled.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Mattel gets into the act:
Fisher-Price, a unit of toymaker Mattel Inc on Thursday said it will recall about 10 million toys and other items in the United States and Canada due to the potential for serious injuries.

Mattel's shares fell on the announcement that the products, including Little People Wheelies Stand 'n Play Rampway; Fisher-Price tricycle models; Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Close to Me high chairs; and various infant toys with inflatable balls, were recalled after some injuries, including lacerations and choking hazards, were reported.
...
The items were sold at mass merchandise retailers in the United States and Canada from September 2001 through September 2010.

The list of products involved, model numbers and where they were sold can be found at Mattel's website: http://www.service.mattel.com.

U.S. Government says screw it, bans all drop-side cribs.
Starting this summer, it will be illegal to sell a crib with sides that drop down or those that do not pass strict tests measuring the durability of slats and mattress supports.

Each of these flaws has led to deaths of babies. When a piece of a crib separates, whether it's a slat, a mattress support or the entire side, babies can fall into the gap. Trapped, they hang to death.

The new rules, which go into effect in about six months, usher in another historic change: It will make it illegal to sell nearly all used cribs since few second-hand cribs will meet the tougher standards. Parents will be allowed to resell cribs that are compliant with the new safety rules, but it will likely take years for many of those to hit the second-hand market.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Welcome to the fray, Intel!
The chipmaker Intel has halted shipments of its new "Sandy Bridge" processors and says it will have to spend a total of $1bn fixing a fault, delaying hundreds of new PC models for up to three months and potentially stifling growth in the personal computer market.

Launched early in January, the Sandy Bridge chip combines standard processing and graphics units on a single die. But Intel said today it had found flaws in a support chip, called Cougar Point, which would have led to failures over time in connections to hard drives and DVDs.

Ford back in the mix:
Ford Motor Co is recalling nearly 281,000 F-150 pickup trucks in the United States because of a potential problem with the door handles not working properly, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported on Thursday.

Model years 2009 and 2010 F-150 trucks produced from January 2008 to November 2009 are being recalled because in the event of a crash, "the door handle spring can fail causing the door latch to open," NHTSA said in a filing.
...
Ford said that customers will initially be asked to bring their F-150s to dealerships if any door handle is loose or fails to return to a stowed position.

Later, once replacement parts are available, owners will be asked to bring in their trucks for inspection at Ford or Lincoln dealerships, the filing said.

Honda Fit
Honda Motor Co. on Wednesday announced that it will recall 97,201 Fit vehicles to address an issue with the lost motion springs components.

Honda will replace lost motion springs components within the engine valvetrain for Fit vehicles of the 2009 and 2010 model years. The automaker encourages all owners of affected vehicles in the U.S. to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification.

The lost motion springs are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use. However, they may bend or break over time resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing engine damage or stalling.
Disney Theme Park watches
Hundreds of watches sold at Walt Disney World have been recalled, because they can potentially burn children's skin.

The children's light-up watches, featuring either Buzz Lightyear, Tinker Bell or the "Cars" character Lightning McQueen, were sold at Disney's theme parks from November to January for about $30.

The watches were also sold at Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line ships and the Magic of Disney Shop at Orlando International Airport.
Cadillac CTS
General Motors Co. is recalling more than 50,000 Cadillac CTS cars made in Lansing. The 2009 and 2010 model-year vehicles are under recall because of a problem that could destabilize a rear wheel and make the car difficult to steer.

Of the recalled vehicles, approximately 44,000 were made in the United States in 2009 and 2010. The remainder were sold in China and other countries.
...
The CTS problem lies in what is known as a rear toe link assembly, according to the Detroit-based automaker's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. GM spokesman Alan Adler said he couldn't comment on GM's relationships with suppliers.

The filing said a wax coating on a nut could cause it to come loose, creating a metal clanking noise. The loose part could result in a sudden change in the vehicle's handling and a driver might not be able to control the vehicle.

Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter
Six different best-if-used-by dated Skippy Reduced Fat peanut butters have been recalled by Unilever USA, because of the risk of salmonellosis - salmonella infection. ...
They are packed in 16.3oz plastic jars and have the following descriptions:

UPC numbers 048001006812 and 048001006782. The numbers can be found below the bar code on the side of the jar's label.

Best-If-Used-Dates - MAY1612LR1, MAY1712LR1, MAY1812LR1, MAY1912LR1, MAY2012LR1 and MAY2112LR1. These are stamped on the lid of the jars.

Lean Cuisine
Nestlé is recalling a small amount of Lean Cuisine food because pieces of red plastic were found inside packages by five consumers.

The red plastic appears to be from an emergency stop button, the company says. And that’s something of a mystery, because Nestle’s plant in Gaffney, S.C., which produced the recalled packages, had no reports of a broken button. Also, the plant was designed so that no emergency-stop button would be near areas where food was in transit.

“We’re continuing our investigation,” says Roz O’Hearn, a spokeswoman at Nestlé USA in Solon, Ohio. “If it were an emergency stop button, we've got about half of it.”
I just wish this would be followed by an Emergency Stop button recall.

The hits keep on coming for Johnson & Johnson:
Johnson & Johnson said it was recalling more than 700,000 bottles or packages of Tylenol and other consumer medicines made at a now-closed plant, the latest in a litany of recalls by the company.

J&J's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit recalled one lot of Tylenol 8 Hour Extended Release Caplets, or 34,056 bottles, from retailers, the company said.

The company cited a musty odor that has prompted many other J&J recalls. The product was made at its Fort Washington, Pennsylvania plant before J&J closed the facility in April 2010.

Separately, McNeil added 10 lots of other products, amounting to 717,696 bottles or packages, to a wholesale level recall it initiated on January 14. Those products included various forms of pain reliever Tylenol, as well as allergy drug Benadryl and cough/cold medicine Sudafed.

Mercedes recall: Cruise control won't shut off
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 137,000 M-class SUVs because the cruise control doesn't immediately disengage when drivers tap the brake pedal.

Under some circumstances, particularly if the driver pumps the brakes, the cruise control system can require an excessive amount of brake force before it will shut off, according to a letter Mercedes-Benz sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on March 31

Welcome back, Ford:
Under government pressure, Ford Motor Co. has agreed to recall 1.2 million more F-150 pickup trucks after more than 200 reports of sudden, unexpected air-bag deployments. The new recall includes some 2006 Lincoln Mark LT pickups.

The Dearborn automaker agreed to recall the 2004-2006 F-150 vehicles under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a notice posted on the government's website.

NHTSA said it has reports of at least 269 air-bag deployments and 98 injuries from suspect F-150s. Injuries include chipped teeth, fractured arms and burns.

Not quite a recall (yet), but drug-resistant staph has been found in almost 47% of US Meat:
Researchers tested 136 packages of chicken, turkey, pork, and ground beef purchased at 26 grocery stores in five cities around the country, and found that 47 percent contained Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), a common cause of infection in people.

What's more, roughly half of the contaminated samples contained strains of the bacteria that were resistant to at least three antibiotics, such as penicillin and tetracycline. Some strains were resistant to a half dozen or more.

As noted in the article, though, this appears to be coming in on the meat and it is seems that proper cooking takes care of all of it. No one is really sure what it means just yet.

Chevy ... excuse me, ChevroletCruzes have issues with their steering shafts.
Chevrolet it recalling General Motors is recalling about 150,000 of the 2011 Cruze compacts in North America to check that intermediate steering shafts covers were installed properly.

The Associate Press reported that the recalled cars that have automatic transmission will also have the transmission linkage installation checked. The Cruze is built for the North America at GM's plant in Lordstown, Ohio.
...
It's a second steering-related recall for the Cruze. Some 2,500 in North America were recalled a month ago to check the bolt securing the steering wheel to the column after one incidence of a wheel caming loose. GM has since said it found no other improperly fastened wheels.

1,156 Honda Civics
Japanese automaker Honda will recall 1,156 Civic vehicles due a seal in a gas line that may be misaligned, posing a fire hazard, regulators said Monday.

The recall involves 2012 model year two-door and four-door Civics made between April 21, 2011 and May 2, 2011, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

In a statement, the NHTSA said, "There is a possibility that an O-ring, which seals a connection in the fuel feed line, is misaligned. If the O-ring is misaligned, a small fuel leak may occur."

Welcome back, Honda.
Honda is recalling 1.5 million vehicles over a problem with their automatic transmission control modules.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect could result in “the vehicle rolling after the driver has placed the gear in the park position,” and also can cause a short circuit that makes the vehicle unexpectedly stall.
...
The recall involves three Honda models: the 2005-2010 model year Accord, 2007-2010 model year CR-V and 2005-2008 model year Element.

In documents filed with NHTSA, Honda said it had been investigating the issue since September 2008. The automaker has received more than 100 complaints related to the defect, including 45 involving stalls.
Chrysler
Chrysler is voluntarily recalling nearly 300,000 minivans over an air-conditioning leak that may cause the airbags to suddenly deploy.
...
The recall involves 2008 model year Chrysler Town and Country, Voyager and Grand Caravan vehicles. NHTSA said 299,718 vehicles could be affected.
Ford
Ford is recalling up to 1.22 million older pickup trucks due to a problem which could cause fuel leaks and a risk of fire, the company and US car-safety regulators announced on Monday.

"Prolonged exposure to road deicing chemicals may cause severe corrosion of the fuel tank straps which secure the tank to the vehicle," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a recall notice.

That could lead to the tank breaking off and hitting the ground, possibly sparking a fire, the NHTSA said.

As many as 1.1 million vehicles in the United States were affected by the recall, including F-150 and F-250 pickup trucks made from 1997 to 2004 and Lincoln Blackwood luxury pickups made from 2002 to 2003, it said.

An additional 120,000 trucks in Canada would be affected by the recall, Ford said. The overwhelming majority of trucks affected by the recall were in the United States and Canada, a Ford spokesman said.

Oh, and lest I forget, check all that ground turkey:
Cargill recalled more than 36 million pounds of ground turkey because the meat may be contaminated with salmonella.

Health authorities possibly have linked Cargill ground turkey to a strain of salmonella that killed one and sickened 79 others.

Production at the Cargill plant where the ground turkey was processed has been halted, and the company said it won't start it up again until the source of the salmonella strain can be pinpointed and actions are taken to address it.

Ground beef
More than 60,000 pounds of ground beef sold at three major grocery store chains in the Southeast have been recalled because of potential E. coli contamination.

The ground beef was supplied by National Beef Packaging Co. of Dodge City, Kan. and sold by Winn-Dixie Stores Inc, Publix Super Markets Inc., and Kroger Co.

The USDA says routine testing at an Ohio Department of Agriculture facility revealed E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria. Further investigation identified the National Beef Packing Co. as the sole source of the tainted ground beef.
...
  • At Kroger, the recalled products include ground chuck, ground beef patties and meatballs, and meat loaf made in the stores. Packages have a "sell by" date of July 29 through Aug. 12 and were sold at stores in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Knoxville, Tenn.
  • At Publix, the products include meatballs, meat loaf, ground chuck patties, prepared burgers, stuffed peppers, seasoned Salisbury steak, and other ground beef products with "sell by" dates of July 25 through Aug. 12. The products were sold at stores in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee.

Another 185,000 pounds of ground turkey produced by Cargill has been recalled due to the risk of salmonella food poisoning.

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced an expansion of last month’s Cargill ground turkey recall on September 11, indicating that additional meat may be contaminated with Salmonella Heidelberg, the same strain of food poisoning that resulted in tens of millions of pounds of ground turkey being removed from the market in August.

The recall affects a number of fresh ground turkey products sold nationwide, including Kroger and Honeysuckle White ground turkey products. A complete list of products affected by the recall is in the FSIS recall announcement. All of the affected products have an establishment number of P-963 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
...
The ground turkey meat now being recalled was produced on August 23, 24, 30 and 31, after the plant reopened. According to the FSIS, the strain detected in the meat in the expanded recall is identical to the strain in the early August recall. That suggests the source of contamination is likely still contaminating meat at the plant or elsewhere in the production chain.

Target gets froggy:
Approximately 3,400 children's frog masks has been recalled by Target Corp. because they lack proper ventilation and present a suffocation risk to children, according to an communiqué issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The Commission says it is liaising closely with Target during this voluntary recall.

Pretty much.

On another note, the CPSC is facing a lawsuit. Why? Their SaferProducts.gov reporting site is searchable by consumers, meaning that anyone can pretty much file any complaints that they see fit, which are then visible to the public.
A new consumer complaints database faced its first legal challenge this week when a company tried to block the federal agency that runs it from posting what the firm described as “baseless allegations” against its product.

The database, launched in March by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is a Web site where consumers can report and review incidents involving any of the thousands of products that the agency regulates — from candles to refrigerators.
...
Critics say that any inaccurate information on the site unfairly threatens a company’s profits and misleads consumers. But consumer advocates say the reporting system allows regulators and consumers to more quickly spot and address emerging hazards.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in a federal district court in Maryland, seeks to prevent the CPSC from making public an incident that allegedly harmed a child. In addition, it wants to keep under seal any related documents and the identity of the company, describing it only as “Company Doe,” a maker and seller of consumer products.

“To require the Plaintiff to proceed without the protection of an order sealing the case would in effect render Plaintiff’s injuries impossible to redress,” the lawsuit said.

The complaint was reported to the commission by another federal agency, not the child’s family, raising some privacy concerns, the company said.
...
Meanwhile, consumer advocates dismissed the company’s effort as a keep-consumers-in-the-dark tactic that industry often uses to avoid public scrutiny, though many said they’re unaware of lawsuits filed against similar federal databases.
...
Before the site was launched, consumers were generally unaware of product safety complaints until the product was recalled. Critics of the database, including the commission’s two Republican appointees, say it should stay that way given the potential accuracy problems this kind of reporting system raises. Their earlier effort to strip the database’s funding failed.

But supporters of the Web site say it provides plenty of protections for businesses. By law, complaints must be shared with the company, which has 10 days to respond. Anything materially inaccurate is to be removed from the complaint before it’s made public, and the company can post comments alongside the complaint.

The commission has received 383 material inaccuracy claims from companies as of September, and 204 of them involved a consumer naming the wrong company, a mistake that the agency said can be easily corrected, according to Wolfson.

A recent study by the Government Accountability Office, a federal watchdog group, found that the commission “has generally been able to identify products and resolve inaccuracy claims,” but could do more to collect model or serial numbers of the products at issue. Currently, such specific information is optional.

The report also found that only about one-third of the complaints it received as of July contained the required information, and those that didn’t were not made public.
So rather than use the policies and procedures in place to combat the "baseless allegations" that they feel are causing them issues, they'd rather file a lawsuit and try to keep that under wraps. :pop:
