next three weeks are ridiculous:

Explosions in the Sky - Sept 22 (worked this show for KEXP)
Vamps - Sept 28 (already went to this)
Balmorhea - Oct 10 (already went to this)
Nik Turner's Hawkwind - Oct 17 (dude is 77 and still touring)
Zola Jesus - Oct 19
Depeche Mode/Warpaint - Oct 21 (got my ticket half a year ago, so i'm committed)
Silversun Pickups/Minus the Bear - Oct 25 (working this show for KEXP)
Zombi/Author & Punisher - Oct 26
Ministry/Death Grips - Nov 1 (also a KEXP volunteer thing i'm doing)
Goblin - Nov 5

there's no way i can make all these

that Chelsea Wolfe/Youth Code show will be here also... never heard her albums, but would like to see the opener again..

tlr wants to see Johnny Mathis (kids, ask your parents) but I'm trying to talk her out of it.

Side note: I saw him years ago strictly by accident. I was visiting back East and called up an old friend from college to see if we could get together. He mentioned that he and his wife were going that evening to see the African Queen, and asked if I wanted to join them.

It never occurred to me he wasn't talking about the movie :D

Wolfe is very talented, but I find that I really have to be in the right mood to listen to her. She reminds me a lot of Monica Richards' (Faith and the Muse) solo stuff. Kinda gothic, kinda ambient, really dark.

Looks like we won’t see Gogol Bordello, as we don’t do GA, and the cheapest option for seating is a 4-person table for $250. And we lack two people.

I may transfer that over to an Alt-J concert next month.

I just got to spend almost 40 minutes talking to Ticketmaster because they have two upcoming events for Cirque du Soleil in the area coming up. Both show as up for presale in the email I received and on their website, but TM only shows one as available for sale. And of course, it's not the one I need. So they're going to put in a ticket. If it doesn't get resolved by Friday morning, it's a moot point.

It seems like every time I turn around a band I love is opening for Alt-J. I don't know anything about them but Lord Huron and Frightened Rabbit have both opened for Alt-J in the past. If past performance is indicative of future results, don't miss their opening band.

$250? Maybe I should be happy that music and I have drifted apart. I used to see band like Gogol Bordello for about ten bucks a pop. I'd talk girls in to going for the small show experience and GB were amazing for the small show experience and I'd have no problem taking out a small gaggle on my dime. The time, they have a changed.

Too late in the game to get decent tickets to Alt-J, so we're going to harass TM until they get their CdS crap straightened out.

Well, the promoter took them off presale since the public sale is starting on Friday. But not the Frisco location, just the Fort Worth one. You can email consumer support to complain.

Hey Xmann, any interest in Enslaved, Wolves in the Throne Room, Myrkur, and Khemmis in Denver in February?

Me and a buddy are thinking about doing a road trip for that one...too good to miss.

Hey, Lawbeef,

Flogging Molly, the Tossers, and Flatfoot 56 are doing NYE at the House of Blues. That would be a good time. I know you're a Tossers fan and Flatfoot 56 are a bit of fun.

Ministry was surprisingly good last night. While it wasn't anywhere near the setlist I would have liked, Uncle Al was absolutely on his game and the band was tight. First 2/3 of the show was their Bush-era stuff with some new songs mixed in (wow, that new stuff is bad), but finishing it up with "NWO", "Just One Fix", "Thieves", and "So What" made for a good night. I can now cross being in a mosh pit for Thieves off my bucket list. :) Although, the fact they played a show on 10/30 and couldn't figure out how to get "Everyday is Halloween" into the mix somehow is a bit disappointing.

It was a weird crowd though. Death Grips was the opener, and while they were fun to watch, their music did absolutely nothing for me. If I didn't know better, I could have sworn they were simply playing the exact same song for over an hour. We wandered out for drinks about halfway through, and I don't think I missed much. At the end of their set, at least 1/3 of the crowd (if not more) left. So there was this really kinda weird vibe when Ministry started playing to a half-empty room. Between that and a setlist of newer songs, it took a while for things to really get going.

Saw Ohgr/KMFDM last Tuesday. Ohgr was brilliant, maybe the best show of the 4 times I've seen his solo act. Amazing to watch him still absolutely command the stage and the crowd...a consummate showman. KMFDM was oh-so-bad. I've never been much of a fan anyways (they're industrial cock rock), but their stage show was even worse than I expected. We left laughing after 3 1/2 songs.

Did manage to get to the Youth Code/Chelsea Wolfe show on Saturday. YC absolutely blew the doors off, and Wolfe was about as dull as I expected. Great voice and her music can be kinda interesting, but her stage show is boooooooooring.

I'm realizing this morning (after getting home at 1am and being in the office for a 7:30 conference call) that doing that many shows in a 2 week period might be a bit much for this old man to take. I'm freaking dying here. Ne Obliviscaris and Allegaeon is up on Saturday night, then I might need to take a break. I can only be tired and cranky for so many mornings. :coffee:

I have 3 tickets to their Portland show on Wednesday but I may wind up skipping - it's a weeknight show in a standing-only venue and I've seen SSP several times.

Met Brian and Nikki at a store signing a few years ago and they seemed super nice.

looks like the Seattle and Portland shows are being rescheduled (again) - this time, due to band member getting the flu. previously Brian broke his arm falling off the stage. don't throw your tickets out!

i would see Death Grips just on their own (as would many others, it seems). that bass was heavy...

Same here. I don’t really like their music much (was mostly going because my friend is a fan), but she’s an absolute demon on stage. Caught them twice on 70k last year, was damn fun to watch.

I saw Alissa White-Gluz (and Elize Ryd) on tour with Kamelot once. Even on power metal stuff, she was fantastic, both clean singing and growling.

She did most of a set with Kamelot on last year’s cruise. I absolutely cannot stand Kamelot, but stuck around to watch their set because she was so good.

Benefit show last night for Scott McCaughey who has played with R.E.M. and a million other bands.

The Decemberists headlined but the big moment was the band that played before them... R.E.M. (well, 3/4 of them without Michael Stipe)

Also got to meet Peter Buck and Colin Meloy before the show

I forgot to post this but a month ago I saw Poptone. Which is Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins (and Kevin’s daughter on bass). They played a mix on Tones on Tail and Love & Rockets songs. They were phenomenal. I never got to see Love & Rockets and I love all of Daniel Ash’s stuff so I was pumped.
