Given that the majority of their signs deal with some form of danger or avoiding it, it's safe to assume they're cautious in their use.

In Junior High and High School my best friend lived across the river in another neighborhood and we walked the tracks back and forth. We daily crossed the river over a train trestle. We never had to run from a train while crossing but many times we were under the trestle (drinkin' beer!) when a train went overhead. That was scary...

Anyway, yeah, there were tons of hobo signs along the route. There was even a seasonal camp that we passed through. Most of the time we all ignored each other but on occasion there were some rough characters there we would try to avoid.

That camp may still be there. It had been there for 30 years when I used to pass through. My aunt tells stories of hobos coming up to the church where she went to school for food or work and they all passed through that camp.

We used to hop on trains if they were going slow enough and ride them a mile or so. Stupid kid stuff...we were invincible though!

I find "Attention to detail" on most of the resumes of the hobos I interview.

Wiki
A hobo is a migrant worker or homeless vagrant, especially one who is impoverished. The term originated in the Western—probably Northwestern—United States around 1890. Unlike a "tramp", who works only when forced to, and a "bum", who does not work at all, a "hobo" is a traveling worker.

Explaining why spaghetti breaks into multiple pieces and not just 2 when bent.

Came across something on this the other day and tested it. Never failed. Until I read the secret....put some twisting pressure on the noddle then break. Most time it broke into one break. Still though it sometimes still went in two.

Trying to snap a single piece of spaghetti in half always sends multiple bits flying.

Taking half the box as a bundle and snapping them all together usually results in just a few stray bits.

Because all the ones in the middle of the bundle are constrained by the ones on the outside (and inside).

Obvious, I guess.

Unfunny answer: half-length spaghetti (and linguini, etc) is less likely to flop around and throw sauce on your shirt.

This is especially important with kids involved.
