It looks like it was written by an overly enthusiastic MTV News writer.
Nonetheless, "Ha Ha Industries" explains the hit on the query "ha HA" while "Pelvis" is the name of a band that used that graphic at the time that their show was being promoted (which also explains why it reads like an Australian hypu take on an enthusiastic MTV news bit).

At this point, our deconstruction of the original image WTFF has reached a normalized baseline of one standard Greengoo unit.

At least we've buried the pic on the previous page. And I'm quoting mine for better visibility, and SmooveB's gnashing of teeth every time he comes to this page.

Every country's favorite book.

I didn't bother reading how they came up with the list, but his one is doubtful: Ireland - Ulysses. It's an example of a book people own, but never read.

And I listened to two hours of Pelvis on Soundcloud last night. Some decent techno background music there.

I have my doubts.

For Algeria he lists Camus' The Stranger, a French novel with racist attitudes towards Algerians. For Afghanistan he lists The Kite Runner, probably the only Afghanistan story most Westerners know but surely not the one most educated Afghans call their favorite. Likewise, I believe that the French and Russians have found things to read since Dumas and Tolstoy.

Several of the titles were written in English for English-speaking audiences despite the countries listed for them. Maybe this data was drawn from English-language Amazon for buyers in each country?

I assumed "favourite" was shorthand for "most sold" or "most sold that originated in the country in question" perhaps.

I didn't look at it too closely. :|

I misread the linked literary map thread as somehow trying to reflect national tastes.

Instead, I think it's just something someone put together around their own idea of a greatest book from each country.

The streets will run green with the blood of the innocent.

Did you know that when giraffes poop, it looks like pouring out a box of Cocoa Puffs? It's almost too small to rake up. What sense does that make?

Oregonians are not happy at the prospect of pumping their own gas.

I just got gas today. My step mom couldn't pump her own gas. Dad always filled it up. After he died she was sol. I dont think Ive ever considered how many people use those things.

Here in the Carolinas, people don't even move over to their side of the road until the last second it takes not to die in oncoming traffic, and we still manage to pump gas without blowing anything up.

And as a biologist who is mildly germaphobic, let me reassure Oregon that a dry, nonporous surface exposed to gas fumes every time it's used is about the least contaminated thing you'll touch all day.

Not according to Kimberly-Clark’s Healthy Workplace Project. I've always understood gas pumps are pretty dirty and conducive to disease transmission, not that I'm advocating mandatory attendants at gas stations.

I might be willing to check out the data from "Kimberly-Clark professionals" if the news piece didn't say, "Considering that he is apparently known as 'Dr Germ,' Gerba was probably a good choice for just such study." Which, by the way, apparently compared the pump to other non-porous, dry surfaces you touch.

My dad had a friend named Jack who owned a Texaco station. When I was little I thought Jack was just about the coolest guy around in his snappy white uniform with the gold star, and I wanted to be a Texaco guy when I grew up, washing those windshields and checking that oil. Gas stations were gleaming white service stations then. You can trust your car to the man who wears the star!

The world was more civilized then. I can't remember the last time somebody else pumped my gas for me, much less offered to check my oil.

Back in the long ago there was a price difference between full service and self serve. Now that they have to pump their own gas they think the price of gas should be lower. This is just another example of oil companies conniving more profits. Or if you're libertarian you know that the Oregon law forbidding you to pump your own gas was a way to force unneeded employees onto gas stations. Thanks Obama!
