Why do you draw the line at opening a business?

Yep, Sony says 12 or older for the PSVR. I think that might also be due to disorientation that may occur.

Zoning laws I agree with. Wouldn't want a sewer plant beside me.

You mean girls who keep making in plainly clear that they're just not into you, but you won't take the hint? What's so untrustworthy about that?

Perhaps.

Ring girl should probably be doing more to get the message across. While it takes 2 to communicate, if you know the other person isn't getting the message, it's not time to settle in and reap the rewards of his hopes/dreams/misunderstandings/unrequited love.

But who knows. We have a single snapshot into their lives and literally anything is possible outside of it.

^^^^^

I'm not real good at understanding why young people with different bits can't have friendships that sometimes act as romantic surrogates for romantic absence but then I've never been particularly good at relationships romantic or otherwise nor generally being able to read people for that matter.

There's nothing wrong with it. It's just painful to watch when you know the guy wants more and the girl publicly points out that they are just friends to anyone watching.

Which she's probably doing very intentionally because she's told him a million times in every possible way she knows how and he's still holding out hope and she really doesn't want him to because people will blame her for leading him on despite her every effort not to.

The first part is undoubtedly true re: intentionally stating in public that they are friends only. These messages are for the "friends" in these equations, not for the home audience. No question. I have my doubts that a direct "we are not romantically involved, I don't think of you that way, and I will never think of you that way, so please don't pursue me any longer, I like you as a friend, and I hope that we can remain friends, but we will never be romantically involved. Period. The. End." conversation ever took place with some of these guys though.

Again, either your version or my version could be true as well as lots of stuff in between. Most guys, even those hopelessly pining for someone forever out of reach, will get the message when put in those terms. Most guys. Not all, but most. The problem is that many women don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so they go about it gently. Sometimes it's because they are literally afraid of the person's reaction if they are rejected, and sometimes because they are "being nice" and don't want to devastate a guy who was smart enough to show great interest in them. "Being nice" can mean many things, but most of them don't involve the quoted statements above.

In the end a woman in this situation has to decide whether her friendship with the dude is worth the hassle of him constantly hoping and giving her rings. Sometimes being friends is the cruelest thing you can do.

Not all of this is on the woman of course. The criticism of the dudes in these situations is implicit. Dude needs to pay attention and internalize the rejection in whatever form it takes. If he truly believes he can set aside his romantic feelings and be friends, well ok, good luck with that, you're a better man than most. If he can't set aside how he feels about her, then he better figure out a way for everyone to be happy even if it means dissolving the friendship , because one sided love is about the cruelest love there is and the longer it goes on the more terrible the end results are likely to be.

There are two tragedies in life: Not getting what you want, and getting it (Oscar Wilde). I wonder how many friend-zoners actually married their crush and ended up miserable.

You are mistaken. Particularly since we have literally zero insight into their relationship prior to this.

I can think of a thousand scenarios where these are the first time each dude has heard that he's in the friend zone.

No one is "off the hook" for clear communication.

No. One.

Tjg, you have often spoken in absolutes and extremes when it comes to gender relationships. I find that rigid and absurd.

New scenarios: Exact same situations, genders reversed. None of it is on the man?

Women are grown ups too, so we should have expectations in-line with that. They can handle it.

The 'back up valentine' one certainly seems like it has the potential to being a surprise to the back-up, if not the main.

At first I thought it might partially be on the girl.eith the ring because she posted it and gushed about it. But I guess posting it could be her way of telling him he's just a friend without saying it to his face.
