I am FAR from a video expert, but couldn't you just film 2 shots? 1 with the small ball and a second with the large ball and green screen,then splice them together? Seems like a no brainer.

Once you start editing, all bets are off imo. Of course there is changing a few pixels versus full blown manipulation, but it's all in the same bucket in my opinion. Of course if it's a fun thing you're doing as a hobby (which this appears to be), then do whatever you like and have a good time, of course.
