It doesn't help that you have a blow-up doll with a voice chip that keeps screaming, "Take me to bed or lose me forever!"

Personally I really liked it. Jessica Chastain is great. I was surprised how edge of my seat intense I found the ending sequence considering going in you know the ending outcome. The torture scenes can be hard to watch, I can see how they would put off people.

I thought it was an adequate and not completely hollywooded up version of what we know about the events leading up to and including the assassination. As my wife put it, I don't think it's a spoiler to mention that Laden gets killed at the end. I particularly liked that the movie showed the tactical teams putting an extra bullet or two into the bodies to make sure they were dead. I'm a little surprised every member of the team(s) didn't put a bullet in the body. I probably would have.

I spent 1/2 the movie thinking "she's up for an oscar for this? When is she going to start acting?" and the 2nd half of the movie thinking "ACTING! IT'S HAPPENING NOW!"

Anyway, was interesting to watch the process as entertainment rather than pieced together from various news sources.

I enjoyed it, but I saw no reason why it should be considered for best Picture against the likes of Silver Linings Playbook, and the Hollywood lovefest for DDL that will get tons of Lincoln awards.

In all fairness, DDL is pretty amazing in almost anything. Putting him in the role of an American icon like Lincoln is pretty much guaranteed to have the academy splooshing all over themselves.

Just got back from Warm Bodies. It's a fun little take on the zombie mythos with enough chuckle-worthy moments. It's not high comedy like Shaun of the Dead, and plays fast and loose with the physics to make the story work, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Watched Summer School last night. I find it interesting that Patrick Labyorteaux went from the jock in that film to the pudgy geek in JAG, while Mark Harmon went from the slacker teacher to the NCIS hard-ass Special Agent.

The fiancee wanted to go see this, so I agreed to go to be amenable. It was actually enjoyable. A bit random at points, but overall, I enjoyed it. Alden Ehrenreich did an excellent job as the male lead.

Just finished watching Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars for the first time. I successfully avoided spoilers for the final season and the miniseries for 9 years. I consider that to be quite a feat.

Now, we have to find something else to watch...

When we finished Farscape we went to Eureka, which I heartily recommend (esp. if you like Warehouse 13). But now we're about 6 disks from the end of that one. I'm running out of sf shows!

I never watched Buffy, so I thought we might go with that next. Not really sf, but close enough....and 7 seasons would last us 6 months or more.

To be fair, adolescent power fantasy tripe is way easier to write than absurd existential horror, and every community has got to start somewhere... right?

Went and saw The Croods last weekend. It was a decent little film. Much like the end of
Spoiler:
Stranger Than Fiction,
I think the ending would have been better if
Spoiler:
the male lead died at the end, something like the knight at the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,
but then it wouldn't have been a kids' movie.

Zero Dark Thirty was an excellent film. The raid on the compound was intense, even though you knew exactly what would happen. The first half of the movie was a bit slow and plodding, but the rest of the movie more than made up for it. 7 of 8 tentacles.

The fiancee and I went and saw Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing this afternoon. It was really good. Being able to see the actors move, hearing the words paced and inflected certainly makes a much bigger difference than trying to read the words from a page.

I just finished watching The Dawn of the Dead. Last night was The Night of the Living Dead. I'm catching up on zombie basics while the wife is out of town.

The first movie didn't hold up very well. It was interesting to see where the modern zombie phenom got started, but the terrible acting, cliche characters, and low budget zombies are hard to get past. The second one was campy and more fun -- the shopping mall setting was genius.

Tomorrow night? You guessed it: The Day of the Dead.

The fiancee and I are working our way though Supernatural and Battlestar Galactica. We also recently consumed the first 'series' of the Cumberbatch Sherlock Holmes and are quite enjoying them. Too bad they're only producing the equivalent of three movies a year.

I started TiVoing Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show and it's the best TV since Archer. I'm not sure how long it will be before it feels like he's stuck on a schtick but I've been loving it for about four weeks now. That's taking up almost all of my TV watching time right now.

Know what I'm not watching? The old Highlander tv series. It used to be my at-the-gym* watching show. It apparently has been pulled from Netflix streaming. Care to guess where it ended? Hulu Plus. Not just regular Hulu. Surely I want to shell out $8/month to watch a 22yo tv series. Pfft.

WOOHOO! S8 of Trailer Park Boys is on Netflix. I'm 5 eps in and it's the real deal - very well done.

I'm going to invoke the choices and voices act and marathon these babies until I'm done - unless I get bit by a raykin and get ravies or something.

EDIT: JACKPOP! Good season. Waiting for another is going to stink, but I guess they are making some movies, also.
Like they say, beauty is the eye when you hold her.
