Watched the first episode of Santa Clarita Diet.

I doubt I'll watch the second one.

For those non-sportsballers among us, Stranger Things announcemed S2 will arrive on Halloween via Super Bowl commercial.

I hope they avoid giving Ryder caffeine before her scenes this time.

Okay, I'm reversing my opinion. I gave it another shot after a friend told me it gets better. And he was right. But only because Olyphant is freakin' hilarious, Barrymore still bugs me though. She overacts in a bad way (unlike Olyphant who does it in a great way), and her head is constantly moving like a bobble head toy.

But Olyphant and the rest of the supporting cast are pretty damn good.

I just finished up watching Season 1 of Glitch. It's an Australian show about a small town where 6 or so people come back from the dead. There have been a number of shows with a similar premise recently (I've only watched the French one), but this one definitely has a more sinister air to it (why are they back, how did they die, etc). Apparently Netflix has picked up the show for a 2nd season, which is good because they definitely didn't wrap much of anything up in the first season...

The wife and I binged all of Santa Clarita Diet this weekend. We loved it. I was a little worried by the over acting style, but a few minutes in to the first episode and I was hooked. My only complaint is that the season ends abruptly without a satisfying conclusion to the story.

I finished SCD over the weekend as well. Olyphant certainly isn't Marshal Raylan Givens in this one, and his overacting is, IMO, the most prominent of the group. The daughter's performance is excellent, however. As for Drew, you can certainly handwave any of her acting foibles into the direction of the character. If the character doesn't really know how to act and control herself, you can't really fault that for coming across from the actress.

Olyphant's over acting seemed genuinely funny to me, while Drew's was (mostly) distracting. It was as if Olyphant was channeling Lucille Ball, while Drew was mimicking Ryder in Stranger Things.

I'll have to get back to it. We watched the first couple episodes and I wasn't completely sold. The wife enjoyed it, but I could take it or leave it.

I'll give it another go.

Neighbor Dan: (in bad Borat imitation mode after walking in on Olyphant smoking weed with another neighbor) Oh, you smoking a blunt with your male lover, eh? Is nice, eh?

Joel (Olyphant): I'm not sure what reaction you're hoping for right now, Dan.

SCD, nice to see the actors having fun while entertaining us. Quite a few good lines in there too. Think we counted 13 producers in one form or another.

Drew looks great! We all age and out bodies change despite our past discrepancies, unfortunately we are programmed with a critical eye towards females.

Neighbor Dan is the same actor as Carlos from Desperate Housewives, Ricardo Chavira. The lack of facial hair makes a difference.

I watched this over the weekend and I can't stop thinking about it. It's flawed in a lot of small ways, but has a distinct voice. I definitely don't regret watching it, but I don't know if I could recommend it to anyone without knowing a lot about their tastes.

Really enjoyed Santa Clarita Diet. Had several genuine laugh out loud moments for me and I'm someone who rarely does more than smile at TV comedy. Looking forward to S2 (and hoping I can convince Neal to come onboard.)

We are down to the last episode of the SCD and it's definitely been a nice surprise.

I wasn't impressed all that much after the first episode. But it definitely has finished strong. Hopefully they'll renew it for season 2.

Too funny, we just started watching it last night and enjoyed the opener. And even though they are not playing the same roles, the little exchange that happened at the 1/2 way point in the first episode had me mentally imagining Captain Mal vs Raylan Givens in a verbal dust-up. :D

Stuff
The series has officially been renewed for a second season. Production starts in March and begins airing on Showtime in Canada in the fall. It hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Netflix will be getting weekly episodes but it’s unlikely.
...
The difference next year is that Netflix is on board from the get-go. Either two things will happen. The first, and most likely, is that new episodes will arrive on Netflix globally a few hours to a day on Netflix around the world. Alternatively, it may be the case (as with this year) that all episodes will drop at once in December 2017.

We liked the first episode enough to give the second a try. But I wasn't all that thrilled after the next two.

But after reading positive reviews, we picked it back up and we really liked it.

It's not a show I'd regularly watch, but I've enjoyed it.

I'm afraid for it. I liked it but it has little buzz. I would hate to see that story fall flat on the ground.

Olyphant and the actress who plays his daughter are fantastic. Olyphant because he plays it so over the top, yet always with a sincere performance; the daughter because she has a great, deadpan delivery that cracks me up every time.

Ultimate Beastmaster is a crap knockoff. It's the exact same obstacle courses over and over (including the finale) and the difficulty is nowhere near Ninja Warrior levels. Ninja Warrior is smart enough to mix things up for the different regions so you stay interested. Beastmaster leaves you with just the "human drama" and that bit is also boring.

Crap Finale Note
Spoiler:
They also fudged the rules on the finale so they could have a dramatic tie breaker. One episode it just matters how high you are vertically, then for the finale its what platform you have cleared?
