I'm going to be *THAT* guy...

Post by RunningMn9 »

I just wanted to say thank you to the forum staff here. Since having my attempts to connect to GoneGold thwarted last Thursday evening, things just seemed a bit lost.

I've probably spent an average of 6-8 HOURS per day reading or posting in GoneGold over the past year or so. And I'm not kidding. To suddenly be denied that outlet was bad.

Like everyone else, I joined a bunch of forums, to seek out my fellow GoneGolders. And while all of the forums were hospitable (again, in particular, I will single out the accomodating nature of CG as being top notch, if not perfect) - I still felt like a refugee at all of them.

Even when I saw the same faces.

But logging in here yesterday just felt as right as something could feel - besides logging into GG. It feels like home. Probably because it was created to feel like home. We weren't invading someplace else.

I really appreciate that the forum staff did this, and are planning to branch out with a new main site (that might even include my favorite creatures in the universe).

Thank you.

Now I'm off to start a fight about the Ten Commandments being placed in a courthouse. :)
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

You're welcome. :) And thank YOU, and all the members who are the reason we are doing this, and who will be what makes it continue to feel like home, we hope.

And I'm going to second *THAT* guy.

Thank you mods, for stepping up to the plate and saving what you could of the GG community. We will never be Gone Gold again, and that's sad, but on the other hand we just might be the OctupusOverlords, and that would be happy indeed!

You guys are great!

I'm with MHS on this one (and many others). This is all for you and what you make of it. This isn't a community without posters. If anything this forum is our "Thank you" to you folks.

I've made my way over here, and think that things look great so far! A big 'thank you' to the mods for getting the new forum up so quickly.
I agree with the others who said that while I'll always look fondly upon CG for the hospitality and compassion that they showed when GG blew up, this feels more like home to me for some indefinable reason. I think I'm going to be just as happy semi-lurking here as I was on GG. Hopefully we can get most of the GG refugees over here eventually. Now to celebrate, I'm going to go and think of a new sig....

I with RM9. CG was nice, but for some reason I feel a lot more comfortable here, and it's the same crappy phpBB color scheme.

Speaking of which, any chance we can get some new schemes going?

There is that chance. Some of your questions can be answered in the meta-forum, others are still being discussed.

Is there going to be a black & gold skin? Or at least something different then subSilver? I'm getting boards confused.

I don't think we can do a new color scheme until we know what our theme is going to be. (and while OO definately seems to be the popular favorite, it still says Brutesquad at the top, and you know what they say about possession)

But I'm sure we'll branch out at some point.

Well, I am going to break in and say screw you all! I actually had a chance a normal, productive, regular day every day and now I am still going to spend too much time here when I really ought to be more productive and or real life social doing other things. These damned forums can be like crack and yer'all enablers. You hear me? Enablers!!! You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Aaugh! This isn't the R&P forum! My eyes! My eyes!

I didn't realize that this site had been established with government money, but I suppose it's as good a reason for higher taxes as any other. :P

Another thanks to all who got this together. It feels almost like 'home' here. BTW, Bill put up a link to CG in his blog. Maybe someone could email him with this link for those of us who visit him, and emailed him asking where GG went, so he could put up this link instead... :)

I sent Bill a little while ago, but I suspect I wasn't the first.

Bingo. Although I suppose we could throw in a few of the stock themes over at phpBB, but we've got a few other things to get working before dealing with themes. :)

Marriage has made you soft, RunningMan9. Your sentimentality will be sweet ambrosia to They Who Wait in the Deeps.

That's actually true. I used to be a LOT nastier.

I totally agree with what everyone else has posted here: great job in finding a new home. I was still fairly new to the GG community (less than 300 posts), but had come to think of it as my home-away-from-home on the internet; seeing the effort that has been made by former GGers to reestablish that home makes me all atingle.

Thanks everyone!

Bravo, well spent, and pass me pieces o' eight!

I was clueless all day about the new establishment - all the way until right after the debates this evening and there was no thread to be found in the CG forums.

Then I knew: "We must have moved..."

Great job, folks - this'll be a place to be proud of.

Imagine what kind of cash Rich would have made with a 1 cent per click fee?

hmmm... one cent per click.

Thanks for the compliments. Thanks even more for allowing us the opportunity to continue what Rich started.
