If you do go to Prime, you probably have my wife to thank for whatever rate hike they sell it to you at. She abuses the hell out of 2-day shipping and we order 80% of the things we need online, hardly ever stepping foot inside stores except for perishables (and even then, we've started experimenting with delivered meal kits, like Hello Fresh and Purple Carrot).Isgrimnur wrote:Not yet a Prime member. Unsurprisingly, the streaming service has confirmed seasons three and four are definitely happening, with José Padilha (Elite Squad, RoboCop) and Eric Newman (Children of Men) staying on as producers. Narcos season three will hit Netflix next year (2017).

I'm glad is renewed. I'll take another two season ark but I'm somewhat worried about who they'll pick or the setting. It can't just be the same just without Pablo. Maybe Italy or Spain setting.

Also, I started watching The White Helmets, a Netflix original documentary about an organization of volunteer first-responders in Aleppo, Syria. They claim to have saved almost 60,000 lives and have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Re: Netflix Instant Watch Recommendations
I really wanted to like this one, and watched it for a couple seasons, but it started trying to mesh too mush fantasy into the science and it started bugging me a lot. My wife still likes to rib me about the fit I had watching "the tech girl" take a literally "burned and fused" hard drive in Season 1 and connect it to an adapter and be all "I've got an app for that!"Isgrimnur wrote:Looks like Fringe is leaving next week. Doh! Reading comprehension fail.
Though apparently, yes, they still buy them. Every time I go to Walmart and see people digging through the clearance disc bins, they swarm around the DVDs but the Blu-ray bin is a ghost town.

I don't have a Blu-ray player yet, so it's all DVDs for me. Will a Blu-ray player read a DVD? I'd really rather not rebuy anything. Of course at this rate, everyone will be using Infrared Micro Gel discs by the time I get around to upgrading.

Re: Netflix Instant Watch Recommendations
Actually, most (all?) blu-ray players should be able to up-convert your DVDs. I haven't done research or personal comparisons, but my understanding is that up-conversion involves algorithms that improve the quality of the movie. It's not high-def, but it's better than the default DVD quality.stessier wrote:I don't have a Blu-ray player yet, so it's all DVDs for me. Will a Blu-ray player read a DVD? Re: Netflix Instant Watch Recommendations
What's the opposite of a recommendation? An anti-recommendation?
Anyway.
I watched The Dwarvenaut the other day. I started cringing in the first minutes of the "documentary", where it showed a group of people playing D&D gathered around a table all wearing costumes with smoke and lighting effects and tortured prose and overly enthusiastic shouts of "Huzzah!" It went downhill from there.
The documentary is about Stefan Pokorny, owner of Dwarven Forge. They make terrain for roleplaying games. I was really looking forward to watching this, because I love the DF terrain and I was hoping that they would get into how it was made. Instead it was a documentary that followed Pokorny around, in overly hyped drama about how if his latest kickstarter didn't raise over $2 million dollars his company would be ruined.
I came away from the documentary not liking Pokorny at all. Still love their product, still regret not getting in on their first kickstarter. I just found him irritating.
