What the fuck was A&E thinking? Good ratings, good reviews, good show.

The word is that the producing studio is already shopping it around for a new home. Its likely to land somewhere.
Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Does it have solid character-based serial storytelling, or is it a more traditional episodic procedural? It's one of the shows I was thinking of giving a try, as it's available on Canadian Netflix meaning I can watch it on my phone. (There are a ton of awesome shows on international Netflix variants I can access via Hola VPN on my desktop, but I can't watch those from bed. :D)

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I'd describe it as a mix. Each episode has a crime to solve but there are running story lines for various characters.
We (my spousal unit and I) watch it on streaming Netflix and enjoyed it enough to start reading the books.

Wikipedia says they want to move to producing everything in-house.

I'm a couple episodes into season 2, and really enjoying it! The characters are compelling, and there's just enough serialization to keep it interesting. I don't find it addictive like a good serial show, but it evolves enough to put it in the domain of excellent procedurals like House. I hope it does indeed get picked up; no news yet.

They don't want shows that appeal to "old" people, it's not their target demographic. :grund:

Yeah I heard a report about that on NPR. Old people are a bad advertising demographic.

Honestly the books are great but can be very different from the show so don't expect things to line up or, in some cases, even be close. The books cover a much larger time span with some vastly different supporting characters but the show really captured the "essence" of the books. I hope it does really well on Netflix and gets enough of a following to continue past season 4. Right now it appears they are wrapping up season 4 - episode 4 and the next season will probably be released in the late Oct-Nov time-frame. Also appears that the majority of the same people will be in the new season with a couple saying no comment so the continuation of season 3's cliffhanger isn't spoiled.

Wife and I are just starting to get into Season 5 and it's got me trying to recall one certain thing from last season. Remember pretty much all of the bits, but cannot for the life of me recall why Starb... errr, Vic... is limping. Can someone spoiler that for me? Not having any luck googling it up. :?

From the crazy cult guy who had her in the basement, I think.

Just finished season 5, looking forward to the next one.

I watch them too fast.

The thread title startled me at first until I recalled it had been cancelled on another network.

Sorry, didn't want it lost in the other general Netflix topic and this was the only one I could find that was Longmire specific.

We need to re-watch the last episode. I recall bits and pieces but in no particular order. And since it's been a while since I either saw the show or read one of the books, I get some things a little confused.

Spoiler questions:
Spoiler:
Didn't Jacob Darkhorse (Nighthorse?) ask Henry to help him get rid of ... Graham Greene's character?
When was that in relation to Mathias (the sheriff) picking up and apparently arresting Henry after finding Henry's truck?
Did Jacob ask Cady to work for him - and is that all done with?
Did they resolve the plot line with the would-be deputy who was spying on Walt as part of a suit? Am I even remembering that correctly?

This thread gave me quite a scare until I realized it was first started 2 years ago :D

But yeah, I had totally forgotten what had happened between season 4 and 5. Seemed to be a longer wait than usual. I kind of wish they'd do a recap in this case. But the way the show is structured, it kind of benefits from easing viewers back into it.

There is a recap, if you scroll down to the end of the episodes list there is a Season 5 trailer and a Season 4 recap. A real... condensed one.

Just finished watching (sadfully) the last season on Netflix. I appreciate them picking the series up and keeping it running for another 3 years.

I have to say, the last episode and how they closed out the arcs of each of the major characters was great, probably the best "last show" of any series I've watched. Not unlike a video game, each got a brief vignette showing the next stage of their lives and I thought it was pretty cool and unique for a TV show. Each of the characters went through a lot of changes through the years from where we found them when the series began, and I think they each earned their respective endings. And the very last shot of Walt was a recognition of an "in joke" all the way through the series.= and was very funny.

I'll miss this one.

Agreed. Really good wrap-up.
Spoiler
Spoiler:
No, really. A spoiler
Spoiler:
Not sure I agree Cady staying behind to run for Sherrif. Now boss of her dad's girlfriend and boss of her new paramour. Other than, that, no quibbles and everything else - particularly how the last episode went down at the lumberyard was very satisfying.

Re: Longmire Cancelled

Well, I'm rather conflicted by it.
Spoiler:
It was a good episode, but I felt there were too many things about it that seemed to rub me the wrong way. Vic and Longmire getting together? I get that there was tension with them throughout the series, but it felt like a shipper scenario through and through. And I never really saw the attraction between them, but more of a good working relationship. It's a small force, people are going to get close.

And then we come to Cady. Her father naming her as his successor seemed to come from nowhere. I thought they had made it clear she never liked being in danger, trying to stay clear of any of the police investigations. She preferred being behind a desk, and she seemed uncomfortable at the thought of being sheriff. Vic can tutor her, he said, and sure maybe it can be done, but when you have two deputies who have been at their job for years, seems odd to me that you would give the job to someone unexperienced. Not to mention that putting her in charge would add workplace drama, ie she's in love with Vic's Ex-Boyfriend (which I may add was an odd bit of plotting seeing as he just stopped responding to Vic, and then that immediately started). Ok, so maybe Vic wouldn't have wanted to be Sheriff seeing as what she and Longmire last discussed, but in this case, what makes most sense would be Ferg. He's got everything to prove. He's got his girl that he wants to win back, which seemed to echo a possible big change in his life. Winning her back might have entailed locking in his job security as Sheriff. So yeah, I really couldn't see Cady doing that. It would seem out-of-character for her.

Yeah, I get that.
Spoiler:
My wife says she never saw Walt and Vic as a couple either. I was OK with it but was anticipating that Vic would head to a big city, if not Philly. I liked Henry's arc to the casino. Cady I saw as finally accepting that offer to practice at a large firm. I liked Ferg stepping up; I never saw him as anything more than a capable sheriff - and that only lately. Maybe Walt should have stayed Sheriff instead of retiring.
But I think that they still did a good job in wrapping up villian arcs while doing, perhaps too much, too please the fan base.
So sayeth the wise Alaundo.

Firmly in the "very good wrap-up" camp. Glad to see them get a chance to do that all proper-like and not just... end. 8-)
