Top Gun 2 coming?..It is! 2020

Post by Daehawk »

So its been 28 years and they just now do a sequel? I just dont think we need it. Top Gun was the perfect 1980's movie. Do we really need a sequel when everyone is 28 years older?

And I would have gone to see it in Imax in 2012 if I'd known about it. Still sucks about Goose dammit :)

Top Gun 2014.

Maverick and Vladimir Putin battle for air superiority high above the Balkans in formerly mothballed 80's era fighters. In the ultimate cross-over, Louis Gossett Jr. reprises his role as Charles 'Chappy' Sinclair.

In the end, America wins, Wall Street thrives, and the reforms of Perestroika II soften Russia.

At the post-victory pool party, Maverick tries to report seeing his adversary ejecting from a firey MiG-28 somewhere over the Dalmatian Coast but forgets when "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", as his iPhone6+ ringtone, announces a call from Charlie Blackwood.

Fade to "The End?" self-tattooed into the torso of a shirtless, six-pack-abed Putin as he bites into a writhing snake...

Here's my pitch:
It's 28 years later... now Maverick is the aging, grizzled CAG whose only respite from the burdens of command is his now legal husband Iceman.

Have you heard Jim Rome talk about Top Gun?

Dear Maverick,

Thanks for throwing Goose's dog tags away. Not like anybody would want those.

As if Ghostbusters 3 with an all-female cast wasn't bad enough (not that I have a problem with an all-female cast, but it is no longer a "sequel" and is now something different - remake? reimagining? completely different story using the name to make money from the baby boomers?)

Man, that trailer taps into nostalgia so deep within me that it's almost painful.

My brother and I were huge into the military and jets when Top Gun came out (I was 8) and we loved everything about it. My uncle even made us an audio tape with all the boring/sexy scenes cut out that we listened to as we were falling asleep for a year or so. It's so ingrained in me I can still quote large sections of that movie.

Yeah. Only watched it once so far but several of the shots look like like they were pulled straight from the first one and I’m ok with that!

Might have seen it with my wife as we both loved the first one. I think the VHS is here somewhere. But have no plans to see it alone. It does bring back the feels. Saw the first one with a buddy. Was nothing to do and he said come on Ill even pay so there I went. Free is free. Wasn't even my type movie I thought before seeing it. But afterwards ya it was awesome. Shame D wont be here to see it. We used to joke and do the Goose lines and the bar singing stuff lol. Not sure this will have the same feels as the 80s were a lot different in tone and views than todays shit place.

Here's my guess based on Hollywood's mood. Maverick having been passed over so many times for advancement is offered one last option by the brass. Display true bravery by having transition surgery, and we'll promote you. We'll even put you in charge of a carrier group.

In the original movie it was all real stunts. I wonder how much is real now in the land of CGI? Also he likes to do his own stuff like fly a helicopter. I wonder if he flew an FA18? or is that even allowed for non military pilots.

I think I caught a glimpse of a P-51 in that trailer, and Tom Cruise owns a P-51 so I'd imagine the only way he lets them use it is if he flies it.

I wonder if Val Kilmer will be forced to become Ice-Non-Gender-Specific-Being? It's maybe a little too much for the front of the helmet? Or maybe Ed Harris is now Ice? I think Val and I would both need two of our old uniforms sewn into one in order to fit.

I used to have a neighbor that thrived on hate and discontent. Loved it. Wallowed in it. When the people he fought with for years and years moved out, he actually died a couple years later. I assume it was a loss of nutritional hatred that killed him.

Iceman as played as Madmartigan from Willow. Ice has retired and become a semi stupid hippie who attends LARP conventions but is called back one last time to save Maverick from himself.

Hell, I don't even remember Ed Harris being in the original movie and I rewatched it a few years ago. It surprisingly still holds up pretty good.
