My guess is that he's a test pilot or stunt pilot doing training school teaching on the side. That'd sort of explain the appearance of the P51 and the F14.

New Trailer

I think they may have nailed the feel of the first one and I really didn't think it was possible. I was excited after the first trailer but this one makes this movie shoot to the top of my [very short these days] go to the theater list.

It would have been nice if someone like Maverick were able to take the final F-14 on its last flight before being dismantled, but I believe that happened many years ago. It would have been a fitting end to the Top Gun franchise. Well, until JJ Abrams is allowed to do his own continuation series.

Lol, just like with fhe SR71 Blackbird. Last flight they broke the cross country record from LA to DC, landed the plan and threw the keys at the Smithsonian

Cross Top Gun with the Night at the Museum movies, and you could have a blast featuring dogfights between many different aircraft from different eras. I'm surprised this hasn't happened as one of the movies was even set at the Air & Space Museum. Maybe they could set one at the Annex.

Yeah, exactly. There is extensive CGI in every single film released these days. In the context of Top Gun Part Deux, I don't think 'they put an enemy fighter into the scene' is what counts as 'a lot of fucking CGI.' 'They're not actually flying' would be more like it.

That said, I am aware that a studio behind-the-scenes vignette suggesting that the actors are all seasoned F-18 pilots is not an indicator that what we see is any reasonable approximation of what actually happened / what the actors were actually capable of.
