Evil Dead: The Series

Post by hentzau »

Starring Bruce Campbell as Ash

This is going to be awesome and horrible at the same time, in true Starz fashion!

I miss the days when WGN's Saturday afternoon lineup had Hercules, Zena, ST:DS 9, and usually one or two other series in the sci-fi/fantasy vein that didn't quite catch on. It was a 3 or 4 hour block that gave me something to do winter afternoons in the '90's. Most of these shows were produced by Tribune Media -- I worked for the Tribune for part of that time. Raimi and Tapert were their bitches back then.

For a couple of years, I lived near the intersection of Bruce and Campbell. Really. I always meant to get a picture of the street signs, but when I finally attempted to do so, I was walking the baby and the instant I looked away from the stroller he was down on the ground and the photo shoot was aborted. Campbell wasn't able to carry a series before when given the opportunity...I'm not sure a much older Campbell will do much better. I'll watch it though.

Loved those days. Me and my friends would have the tvs on playing Herc and Xena as we played pc games online. I also VCR'd so many of them to watch later. Good tv days.

This looks 'groovy' . Unfortunately I dont have STARZ.

EDIT: I noticed Xena herself Lucy Lawless in the trailer.

That trailer is awesome. I don't have Starz now, but I definitely want to check it out if the early opinions live up to the preview.

He worked with her in the past in Xena (as the King of Thieves) and according to his book, he enjoyed working with her. I imagine he's got some clout in the casting and was glad to have a familiar face or two on the roster.

Overall, it looks like a lot of fun. I hope it holds up well enough to get a little traction and doesn't just run in place on a pool of blood.

I posted this in the YouTube thread but thought some of the fans may miss it there.

And this is extremely funny throughout. Bruce is a riot wherever he goes it seems.

Its the shows peeps at Comic-Con doing a panel. Same Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless, Craig DiGregorio, and Ivan Raimi

Last night I accidentally discovered that I already have Starz, which should indicate how much attention I pay to it.

In the DirecTV program guide, the networks we don't get are faded as opposed to highlighted. Since all the Starz listing are highlighted, I assume we're getting them.

There was a stealth premier last night, apparently. Either that or I have a time-traveling DVR.

So did anyone see it?

My dvr saw it, and recorded it. I was half in half out of a sleep coma, and saw Ash battling
the creepy old woman with long fingernails, and went back to sleep.

I just watched through the preview clip that went up earlier in the week, in order to confirm that I wasn't imagining things. tlr wants to watch it, so now I have to wait.

Fortunately with the time change tomorrow, Walking Dead will be an hour later for us, so we can watch this as a sort of appetizer.

Yep. watched all 3 movies and then the premier
It was good.
Honestly thought the first few parts with Ash were the weakest moments.
But the scary parts were pretty intense and the comedic parts got better as the show went on.
Could definitely tell that Raimi directed it.

My guess is it will hold up nicely.
But totally don't get why the episodes are only 30 minutes each.
Thta will probably cause me to load up a few and then binge watch them.

Two episodes have aired and I'm pretty sure this is the best show of the year. Surprised no one is talking about it. It hits all the right Evil Dead tones. It is surprisingly scary (watch it at night!), bloody, and has just the right amount of Ash.

Without Bruce Campbell it would be a mediocre show at best. With Bruce Campbell it's immensely entertaining. Now I think I need to read If Chins Could Kill again.

Thanks to the free Starz preview weekend, I am watching this, and I gotta say, it is awesome. I have been a huge fan of the movies (at least the second and third ones) since I first saw them as a young man. It is great seeing Bruce Campbell bringing back the magic that is Ash. Really feels like a part of the universe they created in those movies.

I just wish I could afford to add Starz to my channel lineup so I could continue watching it once the weekend is over.
