I thought most of us agreed that pestering Rich about why he pulled the plug wasn't the best thing to do. If he wants to talk about why he did it i'm sure he'll post here, no need to start IM'ing him on ICQ.

I have no wish to pester him and I'm at the point where it doesn't matter to me why the site went down as long as he's in good health. I'm just puzzled about being on ICQ and not expecting someone to say hi or ask the obvious questions. I figured if someone was laying low they wouldn't be on ICQ with a nic that people knew or even be on ICQ at all.

In any case, that's why I posted my question. No harm meant.

How do you know it's Rich? "Rich LaPorte" has popped up both here and at CG. Both were confirmed to be impostors.

the person currently on ICQ is using Rich's ICQ# but I guess that's no guarantee it is him.

I see no reason someone who previously had Rich's ICQ number couldn't just say "Hi Rich, how's it going?". He isn't a pariah, nor is he made of glass so delicate that the karmic waves of someone sending him an internet greeting over ICQ would shatter his body into a million pieces.

Likewise in agreement. This ain't a Samuel Jackson movie people. It's not a question of pestering him but of being friendly. You know, if you message him, he can choose to not respond. I don't know what his ICQ # is, I don't want to know it but if someone has it, there is a reason and there is nothing wrong with inquiring about the well being of an acquaintance, and said acquaintance can ignore such messages.
