[TV series] Supergirl - first trailer

Post by JSHAW »

Not too bad, heavy on the cheesy side. Worth a glance? She's cute, that much's for sure.
And she's Super. Super's a good thing, right?

You watch, you decide.

For a trailer/first look it's pretty long, and full of spoilers, so if you want to go into the series
blind, don't watch it.

I'll give it a try. Maybe it will be weird funny like "Dead Like Me" or that fashion magazine show with America Ferrera?

PS I think that video could have used a lot more "CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE NOW!" overlays.

I personally am hoping that this is written with six year old girls in mind, as my daughter would absolutely love a kid oriented Supergirl series.

Per my reading, the setting for this one is "National City", for which I can find no DC track record, so it appears to be created out of whole cloth for the series.

Some of us are hoping that this trailer is edited to appeal to a certain audience, cherry picked moments that don't represent the whole of the series.

Some of us are probably foolish.

With all the super-dramatic, super-gritty super-hero shows out there right now, I suppose it actually does make sense to put out a show designed to appeal to another demographic that may be interested in the 'popular' genre but doesn't want to watch the serious, mature shows. That's fine. I will still give it a go, and if it doesn't click for me? I've still got Arrow. And Flash. And Legends of Tomorrow. And Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And Agent Carter. And Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Spinoff. And Gotham. And (hopefully) Heroes Reborn. And fifty gazillion movies.

Nope.
[T]he two characters are being seen as key components in the show's recent revival - which would make removing them for an unknown quantity in the form of a potential spin-off a pretty risky move on ABC's part.

That's OK. I will list Daredevil in its spot, even though I haven't seen it yet.

I highly doubt I will watch the show but I find it cool that Helen Slater (80's Supergirl) and Dean Cain (90's Superman) are in it.

I'll go against the tide and say that I thought it looked pretty good. I'm a Marvel guy much more than DC, but I'll give it a whirl!

I also thought this looked pretty cool and plan to watch it unless/until I find it to be unwatchable. The cheese factor is a bit high, but then it gets a little thick on The Flash at times, too, and I like that show a lot. I also enjoyed what I watched of Smallville, too (mostly the last 3 seasons or so), so I know that my tolerance for cheese is at least moderate.

Note that from what I've read, most critics are assuming that the crappier special-effects (presumably the truck exploding) are just placeholders done for the trailer, not the actual finished product. I find that encouraging.

Not everybody will like this show and that's fine, but I really like the fact that DC finally seems to be building a head of steam in the movies and especially on TV, and if they can pull off the same magic with this show that they're working with Arrow, Flash, and Gotham, I'll be quite pleased.

I've just been waiting until the current line of shows goes off the air for the summer. I've got a few too many 'active' shows going to add another to the mix. I'm down to only three or four, and most of those will be done this week or next.

Her lips are f'd up, yeah. Hopefully it was just botox and not something permanent. Or maybe she's transitioning to a duck.

Nope, she duck-faced herself. Just like Emmanuelle Beart and (I fear) Morena Baccarin. Morena is looking pretty/weird on Gotham.

I think Morena Baccarin subconsciously influenced the name of my daughter. I was totally in love with her on V. It was only while watching Gotham the other night that I realized I probably named her after that character.

I finally got around to actually watching the Supergirl trailer, and this is 1000% correct. This looks pretty bad.

Side note: the song in the last 1.5 minutes of the trailer is "Fight Song", by Rachel Platten, who I went to Middle School with, and who I recently discovered is an increasingly successful pop star. How about that?

I just watched it too and it looks REALLY bad. They seem to be going for the Sex in the City crowd. Which is a horrible idea, considering this is a super hero show.

If I knew anybody who watched the pilot today during lunch, they might say that the trailer is not representative of the show. That the romance and quasi-feminist stuff crammed into the trailer was most of the stuff from the whole episode. That you've already seen the majority of it, having watched the trailer. They might say that it was still more Smallville than Arrow - a little bit cheesy and comic-booky, but not too bad. They wouldn't deny that it had its problems. That there was an awful lot of backstory and 'major events' crammed into one episode, and that the writing and dialogue were a little awkward, though they might excuse some of that as being typical of pilots.

That's probably what they'd say.

If I knew anybody, that is.
