Now if Croatia takes out Russia, I will be overjoyed with the results of this World Cup.

I assume you're talking about the one near the end of stoppage time where he got hit in the face? That would have been a very questionable PK, at best. I was perfectly fine with them not giving it.
No, I think he's talking about Kompany taking out Jesus at the end line. The reasoning is that the ball was out of play before the contact.
Out of play or not it was unplayable at the time of contact. That was never a penalty.

England/Sweden is a total snoozer so far, as expected. Sweden’s lucky they’re not down by 2 or 3. England can’t finish worth a crap.

Side note: I’m really enjoying listening to Aly Wagner doing the color commentary during this World Cup. She’s very good, knows the game, and has some great insight.

Only if Sterling could make the right decision! If he cannot make the runs behind the Sweden defense in the 2nd half, he needs to come off.

I hope Southgate makes some earlier subs, some of the England players look dead on their feet. They are going to concede at least one goal in the second half.

I switched to Telemundo after the first goal. The play by play guy on Fox is terrible. I'm cooking and cleaning in so I'm not glued to the TV and can tell what's happening on better from inflections on Telemundo than I can by narration on Fox.

Much better second half from both teams. Pickford came up huge in goal with a couple brilliant saves.

Agree on Sterling, he was not good in this game at all. Always seemed to make the wrong decision with his touches.

I’ve rather enjoyed this broadcast team, but maybe I’m in the minority there.

I think what this game highlighted for me was just the difference in the two sides of the bracket; some amazing teams on the one side and some other teams that I was like, yeah they're really just lucky to be here. Though I do think ENG was solid this game and as noted, Pickford was excellent.

I too have enjoyed the Fox broadcasts, and that's not something I usually say about Fox broadcasts(sports or otherwise...).

I would love a FRA ENG final only if I can get a France victory guarantee from someone... BEL going to be a hard test. I don't see ENG losing to CRO. I see them losing to RUS if mafia decides to triple down.

Let's see if the mafia doubles down today or if they're happy with their winnings so far.

What an ugly, dull game this is. Thinking I’m going to bail on this one and just catch the highlights.

Edit: literally 30 seconds after posting that...what a goal from Russia!

I napped through most of the second half of the Croatia/Russia match but... Very happy now. Would love a France vs England final. To think just 4 years ago people were saying the USA would win a World Cup before England would win another. All the stars might be aligned for England this World Cup.

In-laws are in town. One is English, the other is Croatian. Good day. Wednesday might be different.

One of my favorite memories of our recent trip to England was hearing the locals say to you "It's coming home" after their quarterfinal win. Sometimes it was said as a loud cheer and other times in a hushed, reverential voice almost as if they didn't want to break a magical spell.

We're home now but on Wednesday I am English!

I'm not too thrilled with this officiating crew. There have been several times the ref should have shown a yellow card to Croatia. And then one to Walker for...as best as I can tell was confusion about who had control of the ball? Though he hasn't made an absolutely awful call yet. The weird late off-sides with Kane in the first half didn't inspire confidence either.

Edit: Agree on the finishing - they are consistently missing chances.

Henderson has been especially awful. Why the hell hasn't there been a substitution of *someone* in the midfield at this point?

That goal was pretty much what I expected. The Croatians appear much hungrier and the English have just been awful in the middle.

That too - this team has weaknesses in the middle (especially) and back that just keep haunting them. Also the Croatians have been flopping successfully since this ref isn't the greatest.
