MST3K Kickstarter

Post by Sepiche »

Joel is trying to bring back MST3K!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ms ... gbackmst3k

It's most of the way to their goal of $2 million already and that will get us 3 new episodes and for each additional $1.1 million they'll do 3 more episodes up to 12.

I grew up watching MST3K and still go back to watch old episodes on YouTube from time to time. Can't wait to see some new episodes again.

That's the one that's going to push me over. Not a fan of Felicia Day the Comic, but Patton Oswalt is just as good as having TV's Frank back.

Wow. That's awesome. Not only is Patton one of the funniest comics around, he'll be a perfect fit for TV's Frank.

THIS is why Patton Oswalt being added to the show almost makes up for the lack of many of the others.

I wasn't sure they'd be able to do it, but they've had a huge surge toward the end thanks to the add on options they're selling and they're currently 96% of the way to 12 episodes!

They're doing a live telethon starting at 8 eastern today and going until the Kickstarter ends:
http://mst3k.com/thefinalcountdown

They also announced if they can get to $5.9 million they'll do a 13th Holiday episode as well.

Edit: Ha! Just saw that Jack Black, Bill Hader, Joel McHale, Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill, and Neil Patrick Harris have all offered to do cameos if they get to 12 episodes.

The good news is that it's a sequel to Manos: Hands of Fate. But the bad news is that it's a sequel to Manos: Hands of Fate.

The rebooted MST3K is slated to begin April 14!

In anticipation, 20 classic episodes of the original series are coming to Netflix *tomorrow*.

Seeing old MST3K appear on Netflix is great, and I'm very much looking forward to the new series. But here's a reminder that it has been possible to find a ton of MST on YouTube for years.

I just watched MANOS and THE FINAL SACRIFICE again.

All during the 1990s, after I'd moved to grad school, my parents taped the series on VCR and mailed me sets of episodes. I no longer have anything that will run them, and I finally let them go, but for me the series will always be grainy tapes interspersed with Alabama cable TV commercials.

I'm just 20 minutes into the first episode, and I think they've got it. The new host isn't pretending to be Joel or Mike, and everything feels good as both homage and new material.

Hopefully they can keep it up!

We watched the first 2 episodes and I quite liked it. The movie in the 2nd episode wasn't as interesting as the first, but the jokes were good.
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

First 2 were great. We had to stop 2 at one point because it was too much to handle. The third movie was ... meh. Couple of decent jokes but the movie itself didn't do much for us.

Just finished up the full season last night and loved it. Just like the other seasons it has it's ups and downs, but on the whole I loved the new cast and the writing was top notch.

I'd say the new season definitely feels more like the Joel years than the Mike years, and the pace of the jokes is much more rapid fire than the older seasons, but I think that was the right choice for today's audience.

Anyway, here's hoping for season 2. All indications are it's doing very well, but no official announcements yet.

I just finished the whole season, and I think it holds up next to any but the strongest of the original years. The joke writing is great, and the pacing is right on. Most of all, everyone involved is having fun, which is what the original series might have been missing towards the end.

What's missing, I think, is the kind of satire that came with the shorts. In TOS, making fun of movies generally centered on how bad they were, but the shorts were where they could really mock 1950s/60s/70s culture.

I'm prepared to accept Jonah as a peer to Mike and Joel (although he hasn't had time to establish a presence as much as they did). I feel like Crow and Tom Servo never left.

Bring on Season 2!
