Oh c'mon, you know what they mean. You need a reference point, my astronomy professor always talked like that (otherwise we'd run out of telescope time by the time we figured out what the hell we were looking for).

the ride with the bicycle club on Thursday was fun. about 50 people showed up, and one person had a soundsystem wired up with a constant Bowie soundtrack for the whole 12 miles. there were scheduled 'theme dance party' breaks at various Seattle locations:

1. "Life on Mars?" (University of Washington Astronomical Observatory parking lot)
2. "Suffragette City" (Planned Parenthood parking lot)
3. "Changes" (Changes bar)
4. "Dance Magic" (Fremont troll)
5. "Rebel Rebel" (Lenin statue)
6. "Dancing in the Streets" (Seattle Center fountain)

it was to end up at a karaoke place where the club was to dominate the playlist with Bowie songs, but as it turned out this was one where people were hardcore serious about their karaoke and the queue was already incredibly long.

Ricky Gervais talking about David Bowie A little older interview when Bowie was still in his late 50's I think.

Blackstar overtook the #1 spot this week and he had several other album in the top 100. Ziggy Stardust came in at 22. For the first time in his career David Bowie has hit #1 with an album. Clearly his passing has help drive sales but its nice to see that his works are reaching a broad based audience like never before.
Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Not to mention that, unfortunately it's an asterism, not a constellation. An asterism can be any combination of stars forming a pattern that are already part of a constellation. Like how the big dipper is to Ursa Major. An asterism will never get officially recognized, nevermind the fact that we already have a set number of constellations in the sky already. But there would have to be a governing body able to make an asterism official, and as far as I know, the International Astronomical Union doesn't do that.

The comments on the web all suggest that none of those were Bob Dylan. The first one that sounds like him is the singer from T. Rex and the last one was Neil Young.

yeah, Marc Bolan, not Bob Dylan.

(and speaking of Bolan... why is it that American classic rock radio only seems to ever play "Get It On" and nothing else? guy released a ton of good tracks.)

I never read the comments - I just went by what I read in the original article. I did think his Neil Young was pretty good, though.

I wouldn't go by YouTube comments either, but I searched for other sites that re-posted it and what they said. For example, I'd have never known Anthony Newley and still don't.

Rolling Stone did a pretty awesome account of Bowie's final years.

It's been nearly a month and I still find myself getting a little choked up over his passing. Feels like something vitally important to the world is just...gone. I know how emo that sounds, but I can't quite shake it off. :(

Arrested in NY with half a pound of pot. He was with Iggy Pop.
According to The Smoking Gun, Bowie was held in the Monroe County jail for several hours before being released. He paid the bond for him and his co-defendants and left before a scheduled arraignment on the morning of March 22.

He didn't pose for a booking photo until he returned to Rochester three days later to appear in city court. That gave him time to look extra dapper for what BuzzFeed would describe as the "Coolest Mugshot Of All Time."
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Oh wow a bit of pot. The world ends . I wish all states would just go legal. I know that was the 70's but its still silly. now days you can buy pot and smoke it in town but step 50 feet one way and they arrest you for the same thing.

It's the way it's framed. You could easily believe it was staged as an album cover.

Blackstar will become an Instagram Mini Series

While I have no idea what an "Instagram Mini Series" is, I'll definitely be paying attention to this.

Just watched the tribute to Bowie that was on the BRIT awards a few weeks back. They had Lorde performing Life on Mars...and god was it painful. I realize she writes catchy tunes and they're better than the average pop song you find on the radio, but good lord(e) she just shouldn't be singing. She's not even "Tom Waits so bad it's good".

Heh I only know one of her songs (Royals) and through a cover done by Postmodern Jukebox, which I happen to really like. When I went back to listen to the original song, I just couldn't do it.

Oh yeah, and the cover:

I had never heard of Lorde until I saw that Bowie clip. I liked it better than the weird Lady GaGa tribute medley, but that's a low bar to clear.

Mrs. Skinypupy came home from the grocery store yesterday with a Bowie Retrospective issue from Rolling Stone. It's been a fascinating read, going through each phase of his life, along with details on each album. If you can find a copy, I highly recommend picking it up.

It's been over a month, and I still find myself in disbelief from his passing. Got talking about it with a friend at work, and I was trying to come up with anyone from across the entire scope of the entertainment industry (music, film, literature, art, etc.) who I would be more saddened by their death. Realized that there honestly isn't anyone that comes even remotely close. Man. Fuck Cancer.

I freaking love the Postmodern Jukebox version of Royals with Puddles' Pity Party.

Glad to see the Oscars included Bowie in the "in memoriam". What clip was that they used of him?

Zappa had that impact on me. He wasn't the showman that Bowie was, but he was a deeper musician.
