Glad to see the Oscars included Bowie in the "in memoriam". What clip was that they used of him?

That would explain why I've ignored his appearance in that movie. Freakin' Ben Stiller.

It's not an In Memoriam without some snubs.

That's probably more of an Oscar issue as I'm pretty sure David Bowie wasn't behind those snubs.

If you'll kindly point me to the Oscar thread, I'll go post it over there.

Bowie or Issie? Because I gotta be honest, the jury is still out on Issie. I've been told (mostly by Issie) that he's come from the future to give us all the gift of funk.

Re: RIP David Bowie
Back to this, I liked the performance because it was understated. The cool thing for me was the band for that performace was Bowie's last touring band. They got back together after eleven years and practiced for 100 hours to play that 6 minute tribute.hepcat wrote:Just watched the tribute to Bowie that was on the BRIT awards a few weeks back. They had Lorde performing Life on Mars...and god was it painful. I realize she writes catchy tunes and they're better than the average pop song you find on the radio, but good lord(e) she just shouldn't be singing. She's not even "Tom Waits so bad it's good".

Re: RIP David Bowie
I was on the Shout Factory channel on my Roku last night and came across the Dick Cavett show archive. In it I found an early 70's show featuring David Bowie. He performed 1984 and Young Americans and it was great to see a young David Bowie performing. However, the interview was a bit distracting because Bowie was obviously high as a kite during the whole thing. Sniffing constantly, jerky movements, really hard to understand when he spoke, etc.. But considering that Bowie himself would readily admit he did a lot of drugs during that time, it's not that shocking.

Having finally cut the cable myself, I watched that just the other day. I believe "coked-up" is the word you're looking for.hepcat wrote:I was on the Shout Factory channel on my Roku last night and came across the Dick Cavett show archive. o.t., but in the early 70's I worked in the supplies department at ABC and encountered a number of on-air personalities in the employees' elevator. Dick Cavett was never anything less than friendly and gracious towards a snot-nosed college kid like myself.
Howard Cosell was a prick, but that probably comes as no surprise.

I'm still amazed that he kept it to himself, and this was his last video published (I think). I miss few people, and know little of music, but he always impressed me.

I was flipping through broadcast channels last night and came across this little bit of pain from Mr. Bowie and Cher.

Yeah, my son had a hard time explaining to his high school friends why he got so upset at school during the day when he didn't hear it straight from me.
