Just got back - 7 out of 8 tentacles. I laughed, and laughed, and laughed again. And then someone was cutting onions in the theater. Oh, and Dave Bautista just absolutely murdered it in this movie - I thought he was great in the first one, but this was a whole 'nother level!
Spoiler:
You are beautiful. On the inside.
Just fantastic! My 15 y.o. daughter said that when the Guardians finally meet the Avengers, Rocket and Tony Stark are going to be best friends. :)

By the way, I had no real desire to see Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets or whatever, but the trailer in 3D made me change my mind. I don't think I've seen better use of 3D before. I doubt I'll find it a good film, but the visuals may be worth a ticket.

We only had three trailers in our showing. Supposedly the first showing of the day started playing the wrong movie, which backed everything up. We weren't allowed into the theater until 12:35, when the movie was supposed to start at 12:30.

It's the same director as the 5th Element, so I think French Star Wars has a good possibility of at least being entertaining.

The thing I enjoy most about the Guardians films is that they just look like a comic book on-screen. The rest of the Marvel films tend to look like action movies with comic book heroes in them. Guardians looks like a comic book come to life with the bright colors, framing of the shots, and just the all around feel. That makes these films so much more fun, IMO, then the other Marvel movies (which I do enjoy).

I had this exact impression. Saw it in IMAX 3D and it was spectacular. It was unbelievably cool, most amazing thing I have ever seen. 3D was done incredibly well.

I've not been a fan of Besson since The Professional. He started off with such promise, but then quickly turned into the poor man's Jeunet. He simply can't craft a coherent story. Sure, his visuals are great (hence the Jeunet comparison), but I always feel like I've just watched a movie written by a 12 year old when the credits roll on one of his films.

The only saving grace is that he's adapting this from a pretty famous French comic book series. So he's not responsible for the universe building beyond the imagery (for the most part).
He won. Period.

Spoiler:
They're pretty small, but are definitely there!

During the big chained-jump sequence (with the distorted faces), one of the places they pass has a gladiator ring with folks that look like they could be Thor and Hulk in the ring (or not, but at least that this could be the same ring).

Then in the end credits, when the various characters are dancing, the Grandmaster makes an appearance.

Cool! I did catch the Grandmaster dancing during the credits, and I assumed there had to be something during that scene of them jumping through the gates. It just went by too quickly for me to catch.

That was also in the Ragnarok teaser/preview before the movie.

Just got back. Really enjoyed it, but not quite as much as the first. I came in knowing nothing except what they showed in the trailers. Random thoughts:

- Bautista absolutely killed it. I thought he did a great job in the first one, but as a non-actor playing a one-note character that didn't require any range. He was absolutely brilliant in this one.
- Thought Russell was fantastic, and the mid-way twist was pretty awesome.
- Baby Groot was nearly an overdose of cuteness, but it worked perfectly.
- Thought the whole Gamora/Nebula thing fell pretty flat, especially when compared to the other relationships. Gamora felt entirely underused in this one, which was a shame.
- My favorite cameo was
Spoiler:
David Hasselhoff during Ego's speech
- All I could think of with the gold people was Ender's Game. They were pretty 'meh'.
- For a non comic reader, those end scenes didn't do much. Groot was funny though.

A question about Russell's character
Spoiler:
If he's immortal, why has he aged 40 years from when he was on Earth to now?
When darkness veils the world, four Warriors of Light shall come.

He says something along the lines of "I took a form you would relate to". I took that to mean he aged himself to make it easier for Peter to accept him as his father.

I missed that movie :(

Ive been waiting since the first movie and still dont understand why they aren't doing anything with 'ship'. In the movies its just a ship. A prop to be destroyed over and over. Why aren't they using it as a sentient ship? That could have some possibilities.

Apparently the ship (named Aurora) in the comics is sentient, although the movie ship (named Milano) has a different backstory.
