I think I may have identified the source of your confusion. Norway is, in fact, a country, and NOT a film about a disco dancing vampire who has to keep boogying in order to survive.

Alamo Drafthouse did not take enough of your money.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema announced Wednesday morning that it has voluntarily filed for bankruptcy as the coronavirus pandemic continues to have an effect on its business.

The Alamo Drafthouse Ritz in downtown Austin, as well as locations in New Braunfels and Kansas City, Missouri, will be permanently closed.
Looks like my local branch will stay open. Hopefully it'll still be there when I'm ready to go back to the movies in... 2022?

I guess when your business is two highly sketchy things during a pandemic (bars and theaters) the outcome is inevitable.

I think the Covid risks about going to a theatre have been wildly overblown (no Covid exposure has been traced to movie theatre attendance, and I haven't felt uncomfortable either time I've been to a movie since the pandemic started), but YMMV.

I don't see this as a useful metric for COVID.

Isn't this largely due to theaters being closed or operating at a greatly reduced capacity? Closed theaters or operating at 25% capacity both greatly reduces the odds of COVID theater exposure and greatly increases the odds of losing money/closing permanently.

If a theater is at 25% capacity and a bar is at 25% capacity, does the combination of the two result in a 6.25% capacity?

Well damn. Not only is my favorite theater in Evanston gone, now they're closing the Alamo in Austin. One of my bucket list items was to attend a fantastic fest at that one. :(

It's not, but the part of the parenthetical you snipped out is, which is why I don't feel uncomfortable going.

I am sure it's a combination of low attendance and the upgraded air filtration and cleaning practices that have been put into place.

Going to see Heavy Metal tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Probably been close to 35 years since I last saw it on the big screen.

NOSE TIME!!!! :)

Last weekend we saw Outland and The Iron Giant.

Apparently Alamo Drafthouse is having a nationwide server outage so we don't get to watch When Harry Met Sally today.

I offered to stream it on my phone from Amazon and plug it into their projector. They declined.
