Their wings do suck. If they had great wings I'd probably never leave.

I've never had them. Too enamored with their popcorn, pretzels and pizza. And beer. Glorious, glorious beer.McNutt wrote:Their wings do suck. If they had great wings I'd probably never leave.

They once had these wings as their monthly special. They came as four and they were very unusual. They looked like rack of lamb for some weird reason. Those wings were outstanding. I wish they'd bring them back.

The pretzel isn't gourmet or anything, but it's a few steps up from normal theater fare.

Re: Dammit Alamo Drafthouse, stop taking all my money!!
Pretzels are really only as good as what they give you to dip them in. Cheddar cheese or mustard are acceptable dips, too many places (including iPic near me) try to be cute and provide dips that just aren't good for pretzels. And they never give you enough, either. I bought a pretzel at Beer Market a month ago, the thing weighed about 2 lbs and cost $14. The dips were all gone by the time I ate about a quarter of thing (I couldn't eat more if I had dip, but still...)

My best friend and her husband are flying in from TN for the Alien/s double feature this month. We live on the wrong side of Houston for Alamo, closest one is 30+ miles away (yeah this city is huge), but we'll be making the trek, and on a weeknight for this one!

Austin Alamo is showing one of my favorites - The Illusionist - next Sunday night with magic shows before and after. The Alamo just keeps on giving!

We've had some good news here in my neighborhood. One of our local old movie houses is opening up again with the goal of showing classic movies and having events. This Saturday they are having a sci-fi marathon with Big Trouble in Little China, Blade Runner, Galaxy Quest, WestWorld and others. I would be there if I wasn't going to be singing in a show on Saturday I would so be there.

$50 for dinner above ticket prices. It's a good thing we live outside the gravity well. But it was a nice afternoon showing of Midnight Special.

How could they NOT be doing this in the Omaha theater? Especially considering that our theater is Star Wars themed?

Technically, they're not doing it in the Dallas theater, either. They're selecting alternate locations. Austin's is The Long Center for the Performing Arts.

Just got my free birthday ticket email. Whelp, since that saves me $10, I must now go see a movie and spend $20 on food.

Hollywood Palms gives 8 free admissions for birthdays so you could ostensibly take your friends for a party. Wife was going to it last year, but didn't. In the two years I've been with the program, I've done so no times. There are restrictions -- Friday or Saturday is not allowed.

Dammit Alamo Drafthouse..... A different reason this time.
Our local Alamo is showing Raiders of the Lost Ark on June 13th. Sadly, I'll be in San Antonio that entire week.
Coincidentally, home of the actual Alamo.

Re: Dammit Alamo Drafthouse, stop taking all my money!!
Another tough month ahead at the Alamo Drafthouse.
September's schedule includes the following: Blazing Saddles (with Gene Wilder tribute), Flash Gordon, Predator, Beetlejuice (a whole slew of Burton movies actually), Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Wargames, and Phantasm: Remastered (including a live-streamed Q&A with the writer-director Don Coscarelli).
Since my movie going budget is severely constrained this month due to needing to have a new basement window and window well installed, I will have to make some tough choices.
I already have my tickets for Flash Gordon (Hawkmen! DIIIIIIIIIIVE) so that's a given but I can only afford one more movie in Sept so, what to chose?
Currently, I'm leaning very heavily towards Phantasm.

That's a hard choice. I'd be up between Predator and Phantasm.

Although it's not my favorite Mel Brooks movie, I would think that seeing Blazing Saddles with an audience would be a lot of fun.

I'd have gone for Blazing Saddles in a heartbeat. My local Alamo is doing CatCF, and I almost sprung for that. Blazing Saddles would have gotten me.

Blazing Saddles would definitely be incredible on the big screen with a fun crowd but the only remaining seats are in the very front row and they'll probably be gone by the end of today.

This Drafthouse you speak of is foreign to me. Liking what I'm reading. Maybe we too can enjoy the movies again? To the Internet!!!
Edit to add:
Nope, closest is NY. Even looked into owning a franchise. I/we don't meet one of the basic requirements to developing a business. Guess it's still living room viewing.

There was an event in Hartford a month or two ago where the big theater in town (place that runs Broadway shows) held a screening of Blazing Saddles with Mel Brooks in attendance, and he did a live Q&A with the audience afterward. It killed me to miss that opportunity, but I had an evening/night shift at work that I couldn't escapehentzau wrote:Although it's not my favorite Mel Brooks movie, I would think that seeing Blazing Saddles with an audience would be a lot of fun.

I had my first Alamo Drafthouse experience at their new Brooklyn location last week. Although I guess it wasn't the full experience, since I went to the early matinee and couldn't bring myself to order alcohol at 11:30 in the morning.
All in all, it was a great experience -- I absolutely loved the pre-show -- even if the food service is inevitably a bit distracting. It will definitely be my first choice for moviegoing, at least until the Nitehawk (a very similar concept) opens next year.

I do like a nice lunch beer (provided I don't have to go back to work).
I have some friends coming in from out of town to see Rogue One so I've timed it that we can eat lunch and have a beer or two at the Alamo Drafthouse before going to see the movie.
I'll probably go with a nice Golden Fraü Honey Wheat brewed in Kearney, NE since I like supporting the local(ish) breweries.

Re: Dammit Alamo Drafthouse, stop taking all my money!!
Many of the titles are available on Amazon Prime and/or Shudder, so I’ve seen a lot of these. However, there are some you won’t find anywhere else, I believe. It’s still well worth checking out.
And I don’t think it connects up with Movies Anywhere yet. They don’t list a way to link to Alamo on MA at least.
If I may be so bold, I highly recommend Korean films The Man from Nowhere (primo action flick), I Saw the Devil (just watch it) and the great horror film The Wailing (that last one is on Shudder too). Borgman is on there as well and I recommend that for fans of weird cinema that defies classification.
I wish I could recommend Norway, a film about a disco dancing vampire who has to keep boogying in order to survive, but I’m still recovering from watching it about 3 years ago.

I think I may have identified the source of your confusion. Norway is, in fact, a country, and NOT a film about a disco dancing vampire who has to keep boogying in order to survive.
