So Wade to Cavs is weird, but also makes sense given that Bron and Wade are really superfriends. He can add a few quality minutes but not much more. Makes sense to chase one more ring and the Heat are building a young core so they really don't need him. It's still better than giving him a Kobe deal in his declining years. That didn't work well for the Lakers.

The Kobe deal was fine. Over the years, he made the Lakers and the league way more money than what they gave him. Once they hired D'Antoni as coach they were done.

Which is weird because he is doing fine in Houston. Between Kobe and Blight Howard he was doomed in LA.

And he did well in Phoenix. The problem was that his coaching style is uptempo and he had slow(er) players. It was never ever going to work.

So Ball looked like the mediocre player I fully expect him to be but Kuzma.

Can't wait to see Kuzma end up a starter and Ball a role player......

Kuzma outplays Ball by leaps and bound again.

Ball with as many turnovers(4) as assists.

No, I don't think Ball is all that. At least not yet.

They can be loaded next year IF they land PG.

So the season begins and Gordon Hayward goes down with a nasty leg injury in the first quarter.....

This will set the Celtics back a bunch, but on the bright side Kyrie should get to be "the man" on a team which is what he said he wanted......

 That Hayward injury is one of the worst I've seen. I feel so bad for him. :(

In other news the Bulls don't even need another team to get injured, or even a game for that matter. They are happy to fight their way onto the IR.
Chicago Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic is out indefinitely after suffering fractures to his upper jaw and a concussion in an altercation with teammate Bobby Portis at practice Tuesday.

The players had been talking trash to one another in practice, going back and forth before those exchanges escalated into a physical encounter, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Mirotic charged at Portis twice before Portis threw a punch and connected with Mirotic's face, league sources said. Mirotic dropped to the floor and lay there for several minutes before getting up, league sources said.

I haven't seen video of Hayward getting injured, but I have seen a ton of reaction shots (by the players in the game) to the injury. From what I can tell from those reaction shots, Hayward was impaled upon a spike.

Yeah, I don't recommend seeking it out. I saw it while running on a treadmill. I don't recommend that either. It was one of the one's where the trainers run in and try to keep him from looking at it. Watching his reaction when they set it so they could put on the aircast was tough too.

I can tell you this much about Hayward...

I asked some Trauma surgeons this morning I work with if they had seen the injury and they both said they turned the channel and won't watch the replay

Three years ago the Spurs basically ended the Heatles era with some of the best Finals play ever. Suppose I told you then, that in 3 years Tim Duncan would be retired, Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard would be injured and out indefinitely, Rudy Gay would be coming off the bench, and the starting 5 would be:

Pau Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, Danny Green, Kyle Anderson, and some random kid named DeJounte Murray.

You'd think the Spurs had finally, finally fallen apart after a 20-year run, right?

It would seem so. Both Oladipo and Sabonis are playing great.

They played tonight against the cavs. Cavs were favorites by 10.5 points. Pacers won by 17.

Sabonis 15pts 12reb 6ast and a block, Victor had 23pts 2reb 7ast and a steal.

I certainly didn't expect them to be 5-3 eight games in especially with Turner having hardly played.

What a steal for the Lakers. You would have thought Julius Randle would start when Larry Nance Jr went down, but Kuzma is too good to keep off the floor.

I saw this reported a few hours ago. There was not hint of this going down around Detroit so it's a shock for us as well. I cant wait to see Griffin and Drummond playing together, that should be fun.

From the article:
Griffin's career has been marred by injuries. After being drafted with the first pick in the 2009 NBA draft by the Clippers, Griffin broke his left kneecap, had surgery and missed the entire 2009-10 season...

...Since then, he has missed time with back spasms, a torn left quad, a broken hand, a staph infection, right knee surgery, a broken toe, a sprained left MCL and a concussion. He missed 21 games in 2017 and 47 in 2016.
A free agent in the 2017 offseason, Griffin met with team owner Steve Ballmer, president and coach Doc Rivers, special consultant Jerry West and several players at Staples Center in a celebration of his career. At the end of the two-hour fete, Griffin rose and spoke, telling teammates, his coach and the owner, "I want my legacy to be a Clipper."...

...On July 1, Griffin reached an agreement on a five-year, $171 million deal with the Clippers. Griffin did not receive a no-trade clause as part of the new contract.
IMHO, if the Clips were going to be good, they wanted to keep Griffin, but they aren't, and he's injury prone, so they signed him to a contract which would allow them to trade him if they either sucked or his injury concerns became too much for them.

I expect that we may hear about another deal for DeAndre Jordan right quick (long rumored to the Cavs, but only if LeBron would stay). If the Cavs are out, I could see him going to the Wizards.

Let me get this straight. The Clippers lose Chris Paul so they jettison Blake Griffin and likely DeAndre Jordan (who BTW they kidnapped and begged to stay)? Redick is already gone, so what are they left with, the Austin Rivers travelling suckitude?

Wow what an astute observation by a fan of the perennial middle of the road Pacers! If what the Pistons did was desperation, I'll take it. It's better than spinning your wheels for decades. The Pistons got a legitimate star and jettisoned two expiring contracts. And while its still earlym Griffin looks like he is fitting in great and is improving the team. Was there risk involved? Of course, there always is in a trade like this. But by all means let's hope the Pacers avoid any "desperation" moves, they would risk actually improving their team for a change. And we can't have that now, can we?

Getting your panties in a wad doesn't change anything. The Pacers have recovered from losing PG quite well and are positioned to make a splash in the playoffs. The have beaten CLE 3 times and played BOS well beating them last night and would have beat them in their last matchup if not for a mind boggling awesome play by Rozier. Meanwhile DET lost last night to the Clippers even after acquiring the best player the Clippers had.

Meanwhile the Pistons have the 7th highest payroll while the Pacers have the 3rd lowest.

It may be hard to hear but Blake makes the 5th most money in the NBA. He is nowhere near the 5th best player.

But by all means don't take my word for it.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/th ... -backfire/
The gamble, though, is less a matter of tactics and more of sheer cost. By the 2019-20 season, Griffin and Drummond alone will cost more than $61 million in salary. To give that context, as of right now, that would make the Griffin-Drummond duo just one of five NBA pairings that exceeds the $60 million mark in combined salary during that season, according to ESPN front-office insider Bobby Marks. Looking at the others — Washington’s John Wall and Bradley Beal; Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook and Steven Adams; Boston’s Al Horford and Gordon Hayward; and Toronto’s Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan — highlights that other clubs who’ve invested in that way have already had perennial playoff success to justify that spending. It’s unclear whether Detroit would ever reach that point; especially without cap space to address the backcourt imbalance.
http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/news/nb ... k2byl9rk1w
In sports, desperate acts rarely work out for the best. What Pistons coach and front office honcho Stan Van Gundy agreed to do on Monday, 10 days ahead of the February trade deadline, amounts to utter desperation, and it’s hard to see how this works out for the best in Detroit.

"Winner: Los Angeles Lakers
There were rumblings hours before the deadline that the Lakers were using Nance as a sweetener to dump Clarkson, who is owed nearly $26 million over the next two seasons. But the Cavs stepped up and it all worked out perfectly for the Lakers — they got a first-round pick and the expiring contracts of Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye. The Lakers now have only $34.6 million in guaranteed salaries this upcoming offseason, when James and Paul George can become unrestricted free agents."

Not sure how much of a winner that is, Clarkson is the second highest bench scorer in the league (behind Lou Williams, also jettisoned by the Lakers) and Nance is an exciting player and a defensive force. But cap space.

Isaiah Thomas seems like damaged goods, but I wonder how the baller brand will react to the Lakers trading for a point guard.
