According to Variety, the Oscar-winning actress who starred in The Danish Girl and Ex Machina was always the studio's top choice, despite reports that Star Wars' Daisy Ridley was being considered. Sources have told the outlet the studio was waiting for a new draft of the script before making Vikander's involvement official.
Awfully young and awfully unboobed.

I'm not going to comment on the latter, but "awfully young"? Check your math - Angelina Jolie was 26 when the first Lara Croft movie came out. Alicia Vikander is already 27, and production hasn't started yet.
I liked Vikander in "Man from U.N.C.L.E." (the new movie, obviously, not the old series...) Don't have an opinion on Camilla Luddington - I only know her from "Grey's Anatomy".
Camilla Luddington was the mocap and voice of Lara in the last two games.
Wow Jolie looks so much older. I thought she was in her late 30s / early 40s when she was Lara. And I thought this girl was like 20 lol.
Also I think I got Camilla mixed up with Alison Carroll. She was the perfect Lara model to me if a little petite. Being a gymnast she made Lara's move look right.

Which is fine. Her breasts have been less the focus in the last two games.
Next you're going to say that Harrison Ford would have still been ok as Indy if his penis was shorter.

Great choice. She was awesome in Ex Machina, and she's just enough of a rising star that her fame won't be a distraction to the character (like Jolie was).
Attractive, apparently talented (never seen her in anything, but she has the awards - I guess I should watch Ex Machina) and she lives in London so there's a chance she'll get the accent right.

I would have thought Jolie was older than that as well.
If they plan to reboot the movies and start from the beginning, it's smart to pick an actress who can at least play young, then age with the movies. Some people, like Jolie, just seem more mature so you can't really do that with an actress like that.
Ridley would have been great but I think she's tied to the Star Wars movies right? If I was in charge of the Tomb Raider franchise I wouldn't want to get limited in when I could do my movie because my Lara Croft is busy doing someone else's movie. Maybe that's why they didn't go with her.
She was great in Ex Machina (if you're interested in watching it - which you should, fantastic movie - don't read the OO thread filled with spoilers), but I don't know if she looks athletic enough for the part. But then, I've never played a Tomb Raider game and don't really care about the series.

I don't think she looks athletic at all. She's about a 3 sandwiches away from anorexia. She's thin but looks soft. She has a very pretty face. That said, look at what Gerard Butler and Chris Pratt did for their roles in 300 ang GotG. I didn't really care for Ex Machina but she was pretty good in it.

This is going to be based upon the 2013 Tomb Raider game. She definitely has the look from the game. I've only seen her in one movie, the latest Bourne adventure and she was pretty good in that. Will this be the movie that overcomes the video game jinx?

She was also in The Man from U.N.C.L.E which was a really good film and which she was good in. Ex Machina is great too, but wasn't action oriented so doesn't make a good comparison.
"t's a story that not only highlights her incredible physical accomplishments but delves deeper into her humanity," Her physical accomplishments don't look that incredible to me.

If you've watched the trailer, it's quite obvious that she's worked out and gotten herself into shape. No problems there.

Yeah, as someone just now working through the second game, as soon as I saw the trailer I thought it looked like (or at least captured) the overall look of the new series. I thought that was pretty cool.
The trailer shows the exact kind of Tomb Raider movie I want to see. Hopefully the movie delivers on that. I think the first movies were a little too much 'Lara Croft' and not enough 'Tomb Raider' while this trailer is 'Tomb Raider' first and foremost. All I want to see is a Tomb Raider game come to life, that's not too much to ask is it?
I recognized several scenes from the game. We won't know until next year if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but I will watch. It has to be better than Assassin's Creed... right?

The trailer was very meh. Then, Goggins and it was instantly Episode IV. Saying that Vikander is more of a draw than Goggins makes everything you have said or ever will say suspect. If I had an enemies list, you would be on it now. Frankly, I don't know why they didn't just have him play ALL the parts in Tomb Raider. My guess is that no one can take that much awesome.

It was a good thing and it was definitely better than the Assassin's Creed movie. Thumbs up.
