Don't know, bought some bacon/sourcream snacks instead. They were great (Swedes have strange palates though, our candy is repeatedly reported as weird by foreigners so YMM).

Spoiler:
Is the dinner party scene at Arrakeen in this movie? It's one of my favorites in the book, but Lynch didn't have time for it.

Recent interviews, DV has stated he's working on the script for part 2 and is getting ready to start shooting next fall if it gets greenlit. He seems to really look forward to it.

Though I think WB has some healing to do with him if they want to be part of the next instalment. This is Legendary's film after all, Warner Brothers is just the distributor and only financed 25% of Part 1.

This Variety long-form interview (about 10 minute clip) sounds a whole lot less hesitant - but it wasn't ebullient either. He might be worried/realistic about the financials.

Got tickets for Thursday 10/21!

My friend and I have been talking for three years about seeing this on opening night, but he's going to a conference on 10/22 (the announced release date). With this early showing, we'll still get to see it together.

My wife has been busting my balls about organizing a date night. She doesn't want to spend any money, a sitter alone is over $100 for a night. I want to see this movie, but I don't think it will interest her. She might be okay with the new James Bond movie, but I still don't know that I want to go to a theater.

I subscribed to HBOMax yesterday, so I can see this movie.

I am still very risk averse and won't be going to a movie theater for quite a while, so this is a good thing for me. I have a few other people in my bubble who might be interested, so maybe I might have a friend over to watch. The Mrs knows I am excited for this, but other than being supportive of my interests, she has no desire to see it.

I don't suppose they have a free trial available? How much to subscribe for a month?

I'd rather not go to a movie theater either, and this is definitely not something that would interest my wife.

I didn't realize it's on HBOMax. When I search there, I only see the 1984 version. I guess it's not available until 10/21, and I can't add it to my watch list. Will probably watch it if it's not some 3-hour+ monstrosity.

I wouldn't be in a rush to watch it if it wasn't. The book is long. It's a complex story. When you edit the crap out if, you get the Lynch debacle. The miniseries covered it much better, and even if was 4 hours long, some things would be cut.

It's a bit over 2 and a half hours long and it won't cover the entire book.

Nah, but it does cover the perfume ads for Chani, the new fragrance of Arrakis.

choice of $10 or $15 for one month, very reasonable when you compare it to the price of a theater ticket.
I was super surprised at the amount of content DC movies, cartoon network, adult swim, studio ghibli, in addition to all kinds of hbo stuff.

You're only just now learning this is Part 1 and Villeneuve plans to film the rest of the book in a sequel movie?

I am aware of this. I was referring to the tendency of big movies like this to release half-assed versions, followed by video release of the whole thing (such as LOTR and even Lynch's Dune). I'm not referring to parts one and two, I'm referring to a 4 hour version of part one and a 4 hour version of part two after 3 hour versions are shown in the theater.

Why when I can wait and just watch it once? Half of the new stuff that's added is lost as my attention wanders from the boredom of watching the rest of it a second time.

Saw this for the third time yesterday...

First time, I was just blown away. IMAX, the whole shebang. Whatever problems anyone might have with the movie, the technical, cinematic, score, scale and scope side of things are just objectively speaking fantastic.

Second time I watched it, I started to pay attention to the nuances of how the story was told and the setup, and how the story will probably progress in the sequel (fingers crossed). And I got to say, as a fan of the novels, they're heading down the road less traveled with this one:
Spoiler:
Paul is not the messiah, and in fact, becomes the cause of galactic genocide. Which he knows is going to happen, being prescient and all, but chooses to go ahead with anyway to save himself and his mother. "Fanatic legions worshipping an altar with my father's skull" as he puts it in the stilltent scene following a particularly harrowing vision.
Third time, I just saw it as most people will probably see it; a pleasurable movie experience. I'm all Duned out for now, although I'll probably watch it at home once more with the wife once us swedes get access to HBO Max in a week or so.
But you've seen who's in heaven
Is there anyone in hell?
