Also, birthday cake is not inductive to weight loss.

Haven't posted this year but might as well join in again. I was around my current weight about a year ago but then sprained my ankle very badly in May 2016. I ended up working from home, unable to walk/workout for almost 12 weeks. Couldn't move much. I ate a lot of delivery for lunch. Combine that loveliness with zero exercise (laid up and all!) and zero tracking. Around November I went to a wedding and realized my suit didn't fit. I had put on something like 35 pounds and was up around 265.

Time for action then so I waited through Thanksgiving. I then kicked off a keto run with the goal of 30 or so days fat adaptation that would segue into a Rapid Fat Loss 12-week run. I dropped from 265-ish to 255 starting in early to mid December and then ran the RFL. That was 1/9 - 4/2. Over the 12 weeks I averaged 1400 or so calories a day including twice a week free meals. Most days were around 1000 calories. That consisted mostly of sous vide chicken breasts and green beans. I had some pretty good protein powders (Quest Low Carb Whey protein) to round out and make my protein levels. Pretty brutal but effective. I'm now on a 2-week diet break to restore hormone levels at about 2600 calories a day then back on the RFL for 5-6 weeks. That will be until I am back down to about 25% BF. Then I'll evaluate my training plan. I have 6-months of M-Th travel in front of me so I need to figure out a short-term gym and how to eat like a crazy person on the road in the Charlotte vicinity.

On the physical side I am maintaining strength levels so far and keeping up with 4-5 days of endurance heavy practices/games. So far this plan has been manageable but I might need to switch up to a more flexible diet plan.

Dude. That's some impressive weight loss. I just can't imagine eating so few calories and still having any kind of energy to do any kind of sporting activities or workouts.

I did it once before so I know what to do. Meaning if I was flagging I targeted free meals around some activity. I'm heavily influenced by Lyle McDonald, Gary Taubes, Martin Berkhan, and Dr. Jason Fung. It works but you have to change habits. Going 12-weeks definitely establishes a new pattern. I also left out what I now consider a key piece which is intermittent fasting (Berkhan/Fung influence). I used to think it was only a convenience device but I'm certain it has an effect now. I only eat for 6-8 hours a day. Usually noonish to eight. And once you get used to it - it works. At least for me. I don't wake up hungry; even when there are days where I shift to 4 to 8 or 4 to 10. For example, on Fridays I have practice from 7-9 so I eat at a diner afterwards. That usually is a heavier meal and I just live with the 'rule breaking' by just eating at noon the next day to get back on schedule. My experience is as long as I have 90-95% adherence it'll most likely work.

Having some difficultly getting back into pure healthy eating after taking time off for being sick and craving less healthy foods... but still losing weight. When I weighed myself Saturday, I was at 243.4 - but a weekend with heavy vegan chili, vegan-friendly candy, and a single trip to Dairy Queen left me weighed down a bit.

Well... I fell off the wagon fast and frigging hard this year. Ready to try again though. And at least I haven't gained much. I'm not even sure what my excuse was... I know it's been pretty stressful between work and both my parents and my wife and I gearing up for big moves.

Thanks to you guys who replied to my comments about experiencing irregular heartbeat. I apologize I never responded... I avoided this thread like the plague when I knew I wasn't making any effort. The great news is the palpitations have stopped! Though we're not sure why. Still a good reason to be vigilant.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Not a great week. My wife decided to accidentally starve herself for a few days, and then on the weekend she steered us into a binge of eating Dairy Queen and Thai takeout along with other heavy vegan/vegetarian foods. Along with some hard work on the weekend that left me sore and drinking a lot of water. I don't know how 'permanent' this gain is.

Just completed a 2-week diet break and showed a zero change which was surprising because I felt like I overate significantly. I was shooting to eat 2650 kCal/day over the interim but ended up around 3000 maintaining my protein levels and upping carbs from almost none to at least 180g/day. The aim was to restore metabolism/leptin levels aka a Lyle McDonald diet break. Monday I dropped back down to about 1000 calories and hope to get back to my average of 1300. Rough transition on the way out of the diet break. I went to a practice Monday night and it just happened to be the worst practice they've run. I made it through over an hour of sprinting with HR near max before I hit the wall severely. So much worse versus going into the diet break where I got to eat a hamburger with...a bun! :) We'll see what happens over the next week but I expect to be lethargic especially since I have practice tonight, Friday, and a game Saturday.

Haven't checked in during the last month due to just not being serious. I actually shot back up to 192.0, but in the past couple of weeks got my act together. Cut out sodas, almost all sugar, and have tremendously cut my carbs. I really want to get in shape before Memorial Day kicks off summer theme park season. The kids have also been wanting to go to the beach nearly every weekend, so I'd like to lose the pudge around the middle.

So far so good. I'm back to running and have a 5K scheduled for next weekend.

Disappointed I didn't lose more during the first week, but I'm reminding myself that big things have small beginnings. Or, hopefully, that smaller things can have small beginnings, heh.

I've stayed on the wagon for the most part, staying under 2,000 calories 3 out of 7 days... only around 1,500 on a couple of them (don't worry, I know I need to eat--I'm not doing a cold turkey hardcore diet). I was about a thousand calories over my target the other three days but on two of them I was helping my parents move, and frankly 3,000 calories is probably modest for me on weekend days that I tend to binge anyway.

I still tried to make better choices even when eating out, and felt pretty good... I didn't deny myself treats, but I attempted and for the most part succeeded in avoiding emotional eating. I think I only had two sodas the entire week... not that I'm a huge soda drinker to begin with, but I definitely tried to stick with water and black coffee for the most part.

Added in 7 Day average. I compute this for TDEE calculations. Since I am currently eating low carb with a high carb refeed over weekend it wreaks havoc with huge water weight shifts. For example, last week I started at 227.4 (after a refeed the previous Saturday/Sunday) and by Thursday I was down to 221.4 and then weighed in at 226 after the refeed yesterday. All normal and expected so averaging helps to smooth out the "noise".

Having a hard time getting any momentum going. April's weather was pretty marginal, so I'm only walking half as often as I'd like.

This week brings me back to tie with the lowest weight I've had since the beginning of the year. I'm hoping that it can continue as we've scaled back from going "Vegetarian" and eating a lot of crap food and shifting back to mostly plants and healthy vegan foods.

Going a little slower than I'd like because I've had some slip up days, usually on the weekend.

Overall happy with the progress.

Next mini-goal is 237lbs which is what I weighed the last time I got 'serious' about losing weight when I made it down to 215lbs.

Been sick since last Friday. No exercise at all, but not eating much and almost completely off my beer. Not an ideal diet plan.

The wife spent the week in Vegas and hiking the Grand Canyon. I got to stay home with the dogs, cats, kids, fish, plants, bird, and lizard. It was a fairly stressful week, and I slipped back into heavy Diet Mountain Dew use to get by and stay alive. When my wife got back we celebrated with a pair of Dairy Queen runs - not ideal for a diet.

Just finished a week long diet break. Ate about 2550 calories per day for the week as this was the first week traveling for new gig M - Th. Decided to take it easy versus figure everything out at the same time I'm settling into a new travel routine in an unknown locale. I should go back to mPSMF to stay on target but may go light and just do a keto week to see how it goes on the road.
