Nice homecoming for Robbie Gould in Chicago yesterday. 5 FG including a last second game-winner to outscore the entire Bears team 15-14. Welcome home to the all-time leading scorer... for da Bears!

On the other hand, the Jimmy G era in SF got off to a nice start, and he looked really good, but the redzone offensive problems which have bedeviled the Niners all year weren't solved...

He's appealing, but he'll be back for PIT, so meh. Still think he should have just been fined.

The Shazier injury is scary because the tackle looks so routine. Yeah, he led with his helmet, but it's not that uncommon either. Hope he's okay.

2017 NFL Week 13

Spinal contusion. Should be ok (compared to the “his legs don’t appear to be moving” comments) and back to Pitt this week.

I assume he’s out for the season with something like that, but who knows with sports medicine being what it is.

Not necessarily.
As many Steelers fans recall, Tommy Maddox suffered a similar injury in 2002 and missed only one game. Ben Roethlisberger was diagnosed with this in the final game of the 2009 season. Both QBs had a full recovery.

Sashi Brown is just got fired by the Browns.

I don't think this was a wise move. Either you're committed to the process or you're not.

Ryan Shazier had surgery. Nobody has good information, but talking head doctors are suggesting this is likely because it was a very serious injury and he might never play again. :(

Yeah, they didn't sound overly optimistic, and it will be months of rehab before they'll know if playing is even possible. Which to me means you shouldn't ever play again. Months of rehab should be plenty of time to understand how close you came to never walking again.

Yeah. It sucks that he is on his rookie deal - he hasn't really made a lot of money yet (considering the risks).

It is the Browns. Of course they aren't. And now Dorsey, formerly of KC, is taking over. Part of why he was fired was poor cap management - wonder how long it will take him to spend all of Cleveland's free space?

Five more years
Roger Goodell has signed a five-year contract extension to remain the commissioner of the NFL, according to a letter obtained by ESPN.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the new contract would be worth $200 million over the life of the contract -- about $40 million annually -- if owners approve all the bonuses and all the incentives are met. The new deal runs through the 2023 season.

The base salary of the new contract is in the single-digit millions, a source had told Schefter. Roughly 85 percent of the total potential compensation package is from bonuses, which would be subject to ownership approval and validation.
...
[Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur] Blank said the owners will have a more direct line to Goodell going forward, including a session with the commissioner at future owners meetings.
...
Sources previously told ESPN that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was leading an effort to try to halt the league's compensation committee from completing the extension. He later told USA Today Sports that he would not sue over the extension but wanted "accountability" in the process.

Jones had been removed as a non-voting seventh member of the compensation committee after his threat of a lawsuit.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

A sure sign that the owners are all against Goodell too, and that he's an abject failure at his job.

At least they won. Buffalo is currently sitting 7th, a half game behind the Ravens (7-5), who are playing PIT (10-2) tonight.

It was not fun to watch. No one could do anything. By the end, most of the field had a foot of snow on it. Everyone kept falling down.

What a win last night for the Steelers! I was so fired up I couldn't fall asleep and ended up getting about 3 hours sleep. I'm tired, but all smiles this morning.

Ben looked bad at the start of the season. He was missing a lot of throws that he normally makes, but he has been absolutely on fire over the last month. I can't remember a stretch over his career where he has played better. I still don't expect the Steelers to win next week against the Patriots. The Steelers defense didn't inspire me with confidence even before Shazier was injured. Brady is going to torch them. I don't think the Patriots will be forced to punt more than twice the entire game.

If the Bills can run the table on the Dolphins, (really, twice in the last three weeks?), they can finish 9-7. Unfortunately, the Ravens have a cakewalk over Cleveland, Indy, and Cincy.

The Ravens aren’t the team they need to look at, the team they will have to pass is the Titans. It’s still a long shot, since I don’t see them sweeping MIA. And they have a 0% chance against NE. Although I fully expect someone to cheap shot Gronk and/or Brady in that game. That’s gonna get ugly, and fast.

I was not at the Bills game. I just meant that it was an awful game to actually watch in its entirety. Seeing some clips, it looked amusing, but it was painful for 3+ hours.

The Bears need to petition to move to the AFC North. Of their four wins so far this year, three have come against the Steelers, the Ravens, and the Bengals. They'll likely be favored to sweep the division when they play Cleveland in couple of weeks (although it would be typical Bears for them to lose that game).

FWIW, the fourth Bears win came against 9-4 Carolina. Go figure.

Thanks, stessier. Really. Thanks. Of course it's a Pats fan that puts the freaking jinx on Wentz right before he tears his ACL ending his season.

Seriously, though. As an Eagles fan, I feel like we are destined to just keep on being the Charlie Browns of the NFL. Every time things start to look promising, someone pulls the ball away. F'ing sucks. I've been in such a funk all day today.

The only silver lining here is that Foles may be the best backup QB in football right now. It was just a few seasons ago that he threw 27 TDs to like 0 (or close to it) INTs. Of course, the Eagles being the Eagles, the wheels then fell off, but still. There may be enough talent on this Eagles team to make a deep push in the playoffs, especially if they secure home field advantage by winning 2 out of their final three games (v. OAK, @Giants, v. Cowboys). But that's probably the best we can hope for. If they can make it past NO, SEA, CAR, ATL and make it to the SB this year, I can't see them coming out with a win against Brady or Rothlisberger with Foles under center. :x

I stopped watching shortly into the 3rd quarter as Brady threw a pick (nice catch by the CB, but Brady underthrew Cook by two steps as he had to slow down - which allowed the CB to speed up and catch the ball), the Dolphins drove for a TD, then the Pats punted. They were toast after that, especially when the next drive also resulted in a Miami TD.
