[movie] The Predator ...not original one :)

Post by Daehawk »

I added the 2017 to the title to separate it from the cool original movie. Also it will be a good solid R rated film.

The cast list came out today and it will be directed by Shane Black of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/02/20/ ... -confirmed
In a subsequent post, the director confirmed that The Predator will be rated R in a roundabout way, saying, "And, just to be clear... PG-13 is for pussies. Spines bleed... a lot." Last June, Black told us he plans to bring mystery back to the franchise with his new film.
The Predator stars Boyd Holbrook, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay and the recently-cast Thomas Jane.
YAY Thomas Jane! BOOOOOO Olivia Munn...die fast Munn.

Fun fact: The director (Shane Black) played Hawkins in the original Predator.

Apparently Olivia Munn was the only one that could convincingly pull off "I ain't got time to bleed."

Not the predator we were looking for
Twentieth Century Fox was just days away from locking picture on “The Predator” when an urgent note came in: Delete the scene featuring Steven Wilder Striegel.

Striegel, 47, didn’t have a big role in his longtime friend Shane Black’s reboot of the sci-fi thriller — just a three-page scene shared with actress Olivia Munn.

But last month, Munn learned that Striegel is a registered sex offender who pleaded guilty in 2010 after facing allegations that he attempted to lure a 14-year-old female into a sexual relationship via the internet. When Munn shared the information with Fox on Aug. 15, studio executives quickly decided to excise him from the movie.

“Our studio was not aware of Mr. Striegel’s background when he was hired,” a Fox spokesperson said in a statement to The Times. “We were not aware of his background during the casting process due to legal limitations that impede studios from running background checks on actors.”

Black, however, has always known.
...
Black defended his decision to cast Striegel in a small part in “The Predator” as a jogger who repeatedly hits on Munn’s character.

“I personally chose to help a friend,” Black said in a written statement to The Times. “I can understand others might disapprove, as his conviction was on a sensitive charge and not to be taken lightly.”

But he said he has long believed that Striegel was “caught up in a bad situation versus something lecherous.”

Munn said she found it “both surprising and unsettling that Shane Black, our director, did not share this information to the cast, crew, or Fox Studios prior to, during, or after production.”

“However,” she continued, “I am relieved that when Fox finally did receive the information, the studio took appropriate action by deleting the scene featuring Wilder prior to release of the film.”
It's almost as if people are the problem.

We can't have predators in Predator. It's redundant.

Honestly disappointed that this got past everyone involved and the director was fine with it as a favor to a friend.

If you asked me if sex offenders should never be able to work, I'd say everyone is entitled to make a living.

Obviously the specifics vary and not all employment would be acceptable. I don't blame the execs for cutting the scenes, but neither do I think the director has done anything wrong.

Employing sex offenders is not sex offending. It's not even against the law.

Mostly I just want to mind my own business as long as crimes aren't being committed.

Not ones who's crimes are viewed as especially heinous by the public and a job which involves hugely favourable public sentiment in order to be successful and make money for their employer, no.

That's a no brainer.

I don't mind if a "luxury" industry like film making is forced to run a squeaky-clean operation from the top down. It's a privilege to work in that industry, and you should be able to lose that privilege.

Striegel is a registered sex offender who pleaded[/b guilty in 2010

Both me, an idiot, and my wife, an ex English teacher, have trouble with that damn word. Its used in so many write ups. The word that should be used is plead not pleaded.

Ya my writing STINKS but when I see and read a word I can tell its wrong. Its like these days when they use littler...its smaller. I hate copy editors these days. My own local news station online screws up SO much I actually got mad and wrote them an email about it. I told them they should hire actual editors to proof read their work and not rely on a bot to do it. They claimed they used the bot plus multiple editors and they'd look into it. The very next week same old errors. I gave up.

I then imagine a long winded physics lecture on the nature of light, radiation, detection of same and then another long winded biology lecture on the limits of the human eye as compared to other options that exist in nature.

Followed by a new tag line:

Knowing that this movie had pretty much no chance of living up to the original, it looks like Shane Black just decided to have fun with this one.

The action is pretty actiony and nearly constant without being over-the-top stupid and the story holds together reasonably well.

There were some nice call-backs to the first two movies and some decent humor.

Such as...
Spoiler:
Get to the choppers!
It did get a bit silly at the end with the:
Spoiler:
Iron Man Predator suit.

At least the "Predator Killer" cargo wasn't a Xenomorph Alien like I was afraid it was going to be.
Overall, if you are a fan of the series I would say you will enjoy this one. Do you need to see it in the theater? Probably not but it's a fun way to spend a couple hours.

Saw it today and came away mostly just annoyed with it. It seemed cynical and cruel at times in an almost comically awful way. But it did teach me that
Spoiler:
If you shoot an alien creature in the head it becomes friendly. Also, Predator ships are apparently vulnerable to birds flying into their engines.
I spent most of the film hoping Munn's character would just disappear suddenly.

I would put this only slightly ahead of the predator vs. alien films.

Also, the CGI for the larger predator seemed off to me. The movement was artificial looking and awkward.

I think the highlight of the film was the trailers for Bad Times at the El Royale. The mini trailers that were sprinkled throughout the other trailers before the full trailer played did a great job of getting me excited for it...and I hadn’t even heard of it until that point. Now it’s on my must see list. It doesn’t hurt that Jeff Bridges is in it. I’ll pretty much watch anything he’s in.
