That's Goldblum on any given Monday. Are there any shots of him from the film?

I honestly don't know, but I'm guessing Goldblum is playing the Grandmaster?

Good call. Since Guardians of the Galaxy introduced the Collector, I guess they're going to present us with even more of the Elders of the Universe.

It could also be that Marvel is introducing a heretofore unknown elder. Emo Goldblum. His power is to make Coldplay sound like Iron Maiden in comparison.

Hela rules Hel...which is where the dead who don't make the cut for Valhalla go. If not Odin level, she's pretty damn close.

I used to be up on the Gods but these days with these movies it seems Asgardians are just talented human like folk and then some have powers somehow.

That's pretty much what they've always been. They fight giants, dragons, giant wolves, and night elves. They're not omnipotent, omniscient, nor omnipresent, and never have been.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I highly recommend the book "Norse Mythology" by Neil Gaiman if you want a good look at the Norwegian gods.Daehawk wrote:I used to be up on the Gods but these days with these movies it seems Asgardians are just talented human like folk and then some have powers somehow.

Remember, in the Marvel universe these aren't the Norse gods of the sagas. These are the powerful aliens the Norse gods were based on.

A great trailer. And did I see a brief glimpse of Skurge, dual-wielding M-16s? That's the kind of fan service I can get behind.

Re: [movie] Thor - Ragnarok
I like the look of things in this movie, it's weird. It reminds of of Guardians, but taken farther out into left field. It looks completely wacky, almost like they are mashing The Fifth Element into the MCU. This is a nice change of pace for Thor movies, which I felt were the least of these movies in many ways. In one fell swoop this makes the Iron Man/Cap/Ant Man/Avengers movies look outdated in comparison. I know I wouldn't mind if Guardians/Doctor Strange/Ragnarok was the new look for things from here on out.

Re: [movie] Thor - Ragnarok
I have to wonder if the stylistic similarity between this and the Guardians of the Galaxy is due to the upcoming crossover.
And I have to say it once again: good God, Blanchett is freaking gorgeous.

Indeed. They run on the principle of "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" theme, if I recall correctly. Thor, Odin, Loki - they're just massively high-tech "gods" - not actual gods.Blackhawk wrote:Remember, in the Marvel universe these aren't the Norse gods of the sagas. Re: [movie] Thor - Ragnarok
I thought in the first Thor movie he states that they are not gods. And not immortal. At least not exactly. They are extremely powerful and have very long lives, however. Loki was the only one that wanted to actually be treated like a god.
From IMDB quotes for Thor 2:
From IMDB quotes for Thor 2:
Loki: [mockingly comes to attention before Odin and laughs] I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
Odin: Do you not truly feel the gravity of your crimes? Wherever you go there is war, ruin and death!
Loki: I went down to Midgard to rule the people of Earth as a benevolent God, just like you.
Odin: We are not gods! We're born, we live, we die, just as humans do.
Loki: Give or take five thousand years.

Jane Foster: Describe exactly what happened to you last night.
Thor: Your ancestors called it magic...
[Thor skims through a book on Norse mythology]
Thor: ...but you call it science. I come from a land where they are one and the same.

Originally they were in the comics; I believe they retconned that at some point to be the "advanced science" idea. One of the bad decisions. I don't know if they changed it back since.

He is an integral part of the Planet Hulk storyline, which this movie borrows from.Grifman wrote:Why do you even think he would fit into this?Daehawk wrote:I wonder if Beta Ray Bill will make an appearance.
Even so, there is roughly a 0% chance that Beta Ray Bill makes it in the movie.

Thor in space made me wonder about Beta Ray Bill as well. The addition of elements from the Planet Hulk storyline even moreso. But he's way too strange for Marvel movies....
...although I thought the same thing about Rocket Raccoon at first.

Re: [movie] Thor - Ragnarok
There's not really a spot for him though. It appears that Thor is taking Hulk's place from the comic storyline as the main hero, and Hulk is taking Beta Ray Bill's.
Maybe we get a mention of him, or see him briefly ala Howard the Duck. But that will be about it.
