RIP Erin Moran - Joanie on Happy Days

Post by Daehawk »

Just 56 years old. Loved her back then. Hard life it seems.

The last story I read of her a few years ago gave me the impression that drugs were becoming a factor in her life. I can't remember what it was, but I thought that it was pretty sad.

I just read today where it seems she was kind of a party animal. Good for your 20s, not so much for your 50s.

I think the story I read was her partying with a bunch of teenage kids and they commented on how it seemed sad even to them.

I believe there is an age limit where once you reach it, you're no longer 'partying'. You've crossed over into substance abuse plain and simple.

I don't know exactly where that age limit is, but I'm sure that by the time you hit 50 that limit is long behind you.

I think it's just Hillary getting back at Chachi for expressing his views. "If I can disappear your pretend girlfriend, just imagine what I can do to the real one." :ninja:

Wow.

As for Ms. Moran, it seems to be another example of how substance abuse doesn't discriminate when it comes to ruining lives. It's too bad she never found it inside of herself to get the help she needed and stick with it. Hopefully, she's found some peace now.

I'm now reading that cancer may have played a part as well.

Actually appears to have been the root cause (not partying):
“A subsequent autopsy revealed that Mrs. [sic] Moran likely succumbed to complications of stage 4 cancer,” according to a joint statement by Sheriff Rod Seelye and Coroner Gary Gilley.

“Standard toxicology tests were performed and the results are pending however no illegal narcotics were found at the residence.”

The statement did not specify what kind of cancer Moran had — but child-actor advocate Paul Petersen revealed that the “Joanie Loves Chachi” star had been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments for throat cancer.

“She was in treatment and it was not going well,” Petersen told The Post on Monday.

Moran was a smoker,

So then she should have partied MORE, since she was terminally ill.

Note also that (irrespective of her possible use of them at one time or another) controlled substances were not found in her home. Note also that the media are hasty, irresponsible, and generally repugnant.

He quickly took to Facebook to clarify his comments and explained how he was only asked about her troubled past. "I was asked ONLY about Erin's troubled past due to drug & alcohol abuse. I was still upset and said I felt that living that kind of a lifestyle will catch up with you and nothing good would come of it," Baio wrote. "THIS WAS BEFORE THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS ANNOUNCED STATING STAGE 4 CANCER."
"I'm also trying to process this loss," he added. "Please stop assuming the worse in me. I'm a compassionate person. I'm very heartbroken over her passing, especially since it was cancer."

:confusion-shrug:

Years ago I wrote my alcoholic aunt a letter basically telling her that when she drank herself to death, I wouldn't attend her funeral. I haven't spoken to her since, and I still don't plan to attend her funeral.

If I found out that she died as a result of something other than drinking, I might feel differently.

Her family should sue him. Someone get Bob Loblaw on the line.
