Post by Daehawk »

Trailer 3

Despite his family's generations-old ban on music, young Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). Looks like the old PC game Grim Fandango. Which I STILL need to play one day.

Looks like Pixar's obsessed with the success of Kubo and the Two Strings.

Not really getting a Kubo vibe from that. More like The Book of the Life.

Really? Kid musician, finds magical companion who helps him go in search of his family history. Reads like a synopsis for Kubo to me.

Well, Kubo was specifically looking for weapons to kill his grandfather while evading capture from ghostly specters who want to rip out his one remaining eye. I feel the tone is somewhat different there... :P

I don't.

Listen, I loved Kubo. If we get another film with a similar plot and it's also good, I don't really care. I just think they are similar, that's all.

Watched this today with my 3 years old daughter. Her first movie experience.

Didn't like the last few Pixar's movies but this one is great. Lot of funny scenes that my daughter loves. Also have a sad scene that made both my wife and I cried.

I saw it last night with a friend and enjoyed it. I thought that it was a beautifully made film, the music was excellent, voicework was spot-on and I really enjoyed the exploration of Mexican beliefs and culture. The plot was pretty standard issue, and seemed to follow familiar beats. It wasn't Pixar's best, but I'd give it 7 out of 8 tentacles. I almost docked a tentacle for them forgoing the expected Pixar short for a "very special episode" of Frozen. Blergh.
