[movie] Godzilla 2: The Godzillining

Post by hepcat »

No? Godzilla 2: Radioactive Boogaloo? Godzillas?

Anyway, looks like we're getting our money's worth in the sequel.

(spoilered in case folks want to be surprised when they see it in 2019)
Spoiler:
When Godzilla, Ghidora, Mothra and Rodan awaken, they begin an all-out war for domination over Earth. It’s up to the team at Monarch to discover how to destroy the monsters before they’re completely wiped out.
I can't help it. I love me some giant monsters. I even enjoyed the 2014 Godzilla.

BTW, not to thread hijack, but what's the story on the Pacific Rim sequel? That's another one I was eagerly awaiting.

Indeed, as the Isgrimbot indicated, the Pacific Rim sequel is due to open on February 23, 2018.

Pacific Rim was a fun movie, but in no alternate universe could a movie about giant robots and monsters be "great."

Pacific Rim isn't horrible, it just suffers from the same thing that Crimson Peak did: del Toro can sometimes get lost in the visuals to the detriment of the story. When he has a lower budget, I think he does a better job because he's forced to limit himself. Which usually means he gives more thought to the story.

I still consider him one of my top 2 or 3 directors currently working. But I admit to having a soft spot for del Toro because of his unabashed love of horror, fantasy and Science Fiction. If you ever listen to his commentaries, or even interviews, he's like a giant kid. He brings a level of sincerity to his work that almost makes up for the factory line works of folks like Bay and Ratner.

Del Toro was just way ahead of his time in making a movie about how futile it is to rely upon the construction of a massive wall.

I thought Pacific Rim had a couple of major issues. One is the story, it's as barebones and generic as you can get. The other is not enoough giant robots fighting giant monsters. The last Godzilla had the same problems.

Dammit! If you're going to do a 'giant whatever' movie, cram it full of giant whatevers. I don't go to a Godzilla movie because I want to know if some family will reunite after the attack, I go to see Godzilla stomping the crap out of everything.

These filmmakers have no confidence in their material. You have Godzilla, you have these 3 other monsters, go crazy! If it's another 100 minutes of human drama, 15 minutes of monster action, I'm done with them.

There was a hell of of a lot more than 15 minutes of monster on robot action in Pacific Rim.

Just one of the baddies had more than that.
Leatherback, the bouncer-like Kaiju which spews electro-magnetic charges, is a favorite of del Toro, who conceived it as a "brawler with this sort of beer belly"; the lumbering movements of gorillas were used as a reference.[73] The Kaiju Otachi homages the dragons of Chinese mythology. The director called it a "Swiss army knife of a Kaiju"; with almost 20 minutes of screen time

Yup, that looks like pure, unadulterated fun on a bun. It’s a day one ticket from me, that’s for sure.

I also just found out Adam Wingard, one of my favorite indie horror filmmakers, is directing Godzilla vs. Kong. I honestly don’t know how he’s going to work out considering his filmography, but at least it won’t be formulaic.

I thought King Kong was supposed to be in the next Godzilla movie, so I'm a little bummed that it looks like we aren't getting that. Still, I'll be in the theatre opening weekend for this. My wife loves big monster movies.

Being the Friend of All Children, he'll probably be driving an ice cream truck. But not in a creepy child abductor way since he is the Friend of All Children.

I thought I read somewhere that one of the reasons that King Kong movie was released was to also include Kong w/ Godzilla?
Maybe he'll make an appearance too?
While feeding all the beasties out back I let a nice big fart. The smell followed all the way back to the house. It's like it was my baby and felt abandoned.

If he shows up in this movie, I would imagine it'll only be during the end credits.

I went looking for a good image from Rampage showing George beating the giant croc (gator?). But I couldn't find one that was any good. :(

On a separate note, will "choke a bitch" ever not be funny? (Though strictly when it invokes memories of the Wayne Brady sketch!) Now I suddenly feel like going to youtube to watch that skit.
