It was. And I just rewatched the skit. It's just as funny as the first time.

Maybe he'll make an appearance too?
If he shows up in this movie, I would imagine it'll only be during the end credits.

Godzilla vs Kong is set for 2020.
If Kong wins again I'm going to be pissed. No way that King Kong would beat Godzilla.
Exhibit A: Kong knows kung fu

Exhibit B: Kong ain't afraid to choke a bitch

Counter-point: radioactive breath right to the junk.

But big picture - they're both giant strong monsters, only Godzilla also has claws and goddamn radioactive breath.

Ah, but Kong moves like 1990 Steven Seagal, while Godzilla moves like 2018 Steven Seagal. While Godzilla is struggling to raise one foot above a power line, Kong has already administered twenty seven death blows to his sternum...and finished his taxes. Long form.

You don't need to move fast when you're the only one with a ranged weapon. Which you can direct with pinpoint accuracy at their junk.

I don’t listen to authority, man. I’m a rebel. When the man tells me, “you can’t come into this theater wearing only speedos and a lizard mask” I laugh. You can’t stop Godzilla love, baby!

I get the feeling there are more than the four monsters they are showing in trailers. Minor players perhaps.

This is what they needed. Just all out bonkers fun in the same vein as their Japanese source material. I don't want a stale and cliched story about giant monster terrorizing a city. I want 3 or more giant monsters terrorizing the world...and throw in some goddamn space aliens for good measure.

Also, I mentioned this in the Netflix thread, but if you do have Netflix, check out the Godzilla trilogy of anime movies. They're fun. Set in the far, far future, they reimagine quite a few of the character's iconic enemies as...well...I won't ruin the surprises.

Hot damn this movie was fun. And LOUD in IMAX.

Spoilers (one about the ending, one about the movie in general):
Spoiler:
Looks like King Ghidorah may return in Godzilla v Kong?

Were Godzilla and Mothra ever allies in the Japanese films?

My wife LOVES big monster movies, and Friday also happened to be her birthday. She thought it was great, better than the previous Godzilla and Kong movies that had come out. The plot and story in this film is fairly nonexistent. I'm pretty sure they didn't do more than a single take for any scene involving humans. And I'm fine with that, because all of the extra money they saved went into the special effects budget. This thing looked great!

We had a good audience to watch it with too. There were a couple of loud families a row or two behind us, but there was a preteen and his dad sitting right next to me and they were enjoying the shit out of this film. Their excitement was infectious. The theater broke out into applause when it was over.

We didn't stick around until the very end of the credits. Was there anything there?

Just got back. The reviews have been mediocre but this is one of the few times I can’t agree with them. The movie was pure Godzilla fun from start to finish. I also thought it had a bit more of a story than folks are saying. They explored a little bit of Godzilla’s history, they tied it to the previous film with a family connection, and Monarch was fleshed out more.

If your twelve year old self doesn’t fight adult you for the right to jump up on your chair when an angry, 350 foot Godzilla comes out of nowhere in the nick of time to administer kaiju justice, you’re dead inside.

...although the third instance of “in the nick of time” was stretching it by that point.

My only issue was I thought there was too much story. You say there are 17 or so monsters out there....I wanna see them all!!
Could care less about mommy and daddy issues.

As far as end credits:
Spoiler:
There was only one and it was the ecoterrorist going back to find Ghidorah’s severed head, which he does.

Just got back. I loved every scene with a monster, and was bored with every scene with a human.
Spoiler:
The dad just came a cross as a pouty clod who served no real purpose except to be the target of exposition. The various NPCs were interchangeable and irrelevant. And then there was mom. Mom. She loved her daughter. She was a plain, straight-up terrorist who was directly responsible for attacks that killed more than Hitler, Pol Pot, and the next dozen runners-up combined. But then she endangers herself for her own child, and we're supposed to feel sympathy for this horrid, cold, heartless bitch? She got to die in a nuke, when most of her victims probably died slowly, pressed under rubble. They should have had Mothra slowly gnaw her to death.
Anyway, anything with monsters was awesome.

Also, in the US, this showed apocalyptic events in California, DC, and Boston. Is this a Fallout prequel?

The humans served their purpose of giving a reason for the battle royale, as well as explaining how the battle was faring. They were rarely on screen for more than that. Think of them as ring announcers who just happened to show up on bring your kid to work day.
