Albuquerque OO meetup - 8/10/17

Post by Brian »

As mentioned in my Phoenix thread, we are moving my wife down to AZ next month.

During our travels we will be spending the night in Albuquerque on August 10th and figured why not have a get together and meet some OOers?

It sounds like BadDemo and her husband will be coming up from Las Cruces so if any other nearby OOers would like to meet for dinner, let us know!

Also, suggestions for a place to meet would be excellent as well!

Me thinks you had one two many tabs open. :D

I'm paging Ertic, as he's the only other forumer I know of in the immediate area. I really wish I could meet up with you guys, but I'm going to be out of town on the 10th.

As for places to meet up, I highly recommend Ertic's game room, but I imagine he probably needs to be involved in that decision in some way.

I'll try and brainstorm some bars and restaurants to recommend. Do you know what area of the city you'll be staying that night?

Thanks!

We haven't made any hotel reservations yet but I imagine somewhere close to the 25/40 corridor.

Thanks for ruining my lurker status Wonderpug!

In regard to restaurants, what are you guys looking for? For a touch of local flavor, and nice atmosphere, I suggest El Pinto.

If you like more American with a touch of New Mexican Flair, then there are some smaller places; Indigo Crow comes to mind.

Both of these places aren't too horrible on the wallet, Id say $35 a person including a drink.

I like a lot of things that aren't fish/sushi.

Mexican/Tex-Mex is probably my favorite "going out" food. :)

I checked out the website for El Pinto and it certainly looks good.
Those red chile ribs look fantastic!

Last time I was in Albuquerque I mostly stayed near the airport so didn't get to experience much local culture. I did find a pretty nice local sandwich shop that I liked but don't remember the name of the place.

El Pinto would also be my recommendation for New Mexico food. Aug 10 is a Thursday, too. They used to have live music going on Thursday nights, but I'm not sure if that's still going on. The red chile ribs are pretty awesome -- on the spicy side, IIRC.

For other food and more variety I might recommend something on Central Ave, east of the University. That'll be pretty close to where you're thinking of staying, and it's sort of the 'trendy' part of town with a lot of bars and restaurants close together so you could do a bar-hopping thing if you wanted to. I'd easily recommend that area over our 'downtown' amidst the skyscrapers.

Route 66 diner can be fun if you're in the mood for burgers and milkshakes over margaritas.

No bar hopping planned as we have to finish our drive out to Phoenix the next day. Also, I'm not much of a drinker anymore. Seems I used up most of my lifetime drinking days while I was in the Navy.

I hear the chicken at Los Pollos Hermanos is pretty good. Ask for the "blue plate special".
