Haven't seen any of that season yet, seems awful hard to mess up anything with Roanoke in the title. Feels like the story should have just written itself. Everyone disappears, Croatan, mix in some spooky injuns with spooky woods, and then stir. Disappointing to hear.
Aw, I liked last season. But I've got a well documented history of terrible taste, and being easily entertained. While I thought they stretched the "found footage, we're filming everything" pretty thin by the end, it was interesting seeing them approach the series from a totally different angle.
I can't imagine, even at my most inebriated, hearing a bouncer offering me an hour with a stripper for only $1,400 and thinking That sounds like a reasonable idea.-Two Sheds
I enjoyed most of the last season but had to stop watching because of the "found footage" camera choices - makes me queasy as hell. I do think airing it earlier in the season, shortening it to 10 episodes and not splitting it across the winter worked out much better for them. I hope the same plan is in place for this season.
They really need to avoid attempts at being topical in regards to politics and culture. The writing team just isn't capable of pulling it off. They should stick to telling horror stories...period.
If they handle political commentary like they did social commentary last season...well, it's going to be cringe worthy.
From what I've seen so far of this show, they can't handle subtlety in the context of commentary with any skill whatsoever. To avoid trivializing your topic, you really need that.
Of course, if they drop all pretext of political commentary and just run with the scary/horny clowns that enjoy late night produce shopping and cheez curl makeover sessions, then I'm all in.
Oddly enough, it seems to be getting better. The first two episodes felt like a series of tired political diatribes. But with this last episode, they've jumped from being ridiculously one sided, to showing how ridiculous that side can also be. It's still not great, but at least now I don't want to shower off after every episode.
I'd agree it's getting better. I haven't watched tonight's show ("Holes") but last week's episode ("11/9") was quite good and it took a turn I hadn't expected. I feel like Evan Peters is the star this season, his character is fantastically creepy in a new way. And his sister (Billie Lourd) has also been an interesting character to watch. I was also impressed with Chaz Bono - didn't actually recognize him at all.

Spoiler:
I'm betting TV news lady wrests control of the cult from Kai at some point, causing them to turn on each other.
You don't have to be Nostradamus to see that coming. I'm just glad to see that there is not only a single, coherent plot, but we're not spending every minute watching Sarah Paulson blubber.
I spent 90% of the money I made on women, booze, and drugs. The other 10% I just pissed away.
It really is so much better than what they've been doing. Or maybe it's just consistent in quality. The first season will always be my favorite, but this is definitely in the top 3 for me now.

I would put it in the top 3. But that’s mostly because Evan Peters just chewed up every scene he was in. He really came into his own this season.
Peters is excellent, but it also helps that they're sticking to a single, coherent narrative that makes sense.

Didn't care for the finale but overall the series redeemed itself from Roanoke. Evan Peters was great again, I love the rant he had with Sarah Paulson on the pay phone.
I thought the finale was excellent - Evan Peters was over-the-top awesome and it felt like an appropriate ending overall. Definitely one of the best seasons they've done.
