[Military] Go for the boom or give'em the hose?
Interesting paper on whether the refueling boom (USAF) is better than the hose and drogue (Navy/USMC, NATO allies). (link to PDF)

Back in Vietnam war, I think they have Intruder tankers (K/A-6's) with drogue/probe system based off the carriers.
The problem is always a question of efficiency vs. capability. The new Pegasus tankers (KC-46) is capable of 3 drogues at once (one centerline, two from wing-tips), AND it still has the boom when it's needed.

Wife thought I was pulling her leg when I told her that mid-air refueling is a real thing. To be fair, I do pull her leg a lot.

Hopefully you followed through and told her about the guy you know who washed the windshields while they filled them up......Kraken wrote:Wife thought I was pulling her leg when I told her that mid-air refueling is a real thing. To be fair, I do pull her leg a lot.
