...In which dbt has a heart attack.

Post by dbt1949 »

Sunday morning just after I got up I had a great pain like indigestion in my chest and radiating to both my arms. It's painful enough that I say goodbye to my wife and drive off to the VA.
It had lessened quite a bit by the time I got there. They read my ekg and gave me a nitro glycerin tablet which eased the pain a bit. Then they said my ekg showed some damage and they wanted to keep me over night.
Half an hour later they sent me to a major civilian hospital to get a "heart cath". That where the shoot dye into your arteries and look for blockages. Found a couple and put in some stents.
Poked me 12 times looking for blood tests and IVs. I'm afraid to drink any thing as I'll bleed out everywhere. Bad hospital food and damned little of it!
They seemed reluctant to let me go but I had my wife to take care of o finally about noon they did.
She was pretty shook up when I got home. I was glad to get home but don't really feel like taking care of her but I have no choice.
So I'm back to my normal shit except for a couple of stents and some extra pills to take.
First time I've ever had a clue about a heart problem.
Looks like I'll live. :coffee:

Sorry to hear about the heart attack, happy to hear you survived. Obviously glad you are still with us, and would hate to think of your wife wondering what had happened for any length of time. Aging is a real hoot, isn't it?

Best of luck on the recovery and good job on getting it taken care of. Next time, call an ambulance.

Glad you're still with us. Both my parents went through that in the last 12 months. The good news is after their stents, their blood pressure went way down!

I got up this morning and found my wife on the floor covered in poop. She sleeps in another room and has a portapotty and it had fallen over.
She had been there for hours I think and threw up some poop she had ate, and she was incoherent.
I couldn't handle it and had to call 911.
Her son went with cause I couldn't handle that either.
I'll clean up her room later.
I really didn't need this right now.

Call a social worker. Get some help. You do no good to yourself or her if it's reached a point where you both need more help than one person can give.

Damn man, I hope things get better for you. You really do need to look into getting some kind of help. Talk to some county agencies or something. Most counties have some kind of help available.

I know you joke about her being a pain in the butt and I'm sure this is brutal to even consider, but it's so very much the right choice. She'll hate you for it, and you might feel helpless, but it's better than the alternatives. I joke about my grandfather shooting at the FBI agents that were walking through his walls, but it was the final straw that made his kids band together and put him in a home.

A man does not have a heart attack and come home to an incoherent wife that's vomited up her own feces which she ate and think "I got this" ... no man should have to bear that burden. I worry that if you try to, there might be another heart attack from stress.

Yeah man, reach out for assistance. You don't have to shoulder this on on your own. If your not sure where to go, send me a PM and I might be able to figure out something local for you - and agency or group you can get in touch with.

Her son just called and she's having some major problems. They'll be keeping her overnight at least.
I guess tomorrow will probably be a big decision day.

I had a big pain in the middle of my back earlier but I took some medicine and it's gone away so it's just a bone out of place.
