Kidney Update- Successful Transplant! May 23
Well, this is the post I've known I would be writing for a long time but it's still weird.
My kidney function is below the cutoff to be considered failing, and I've been referred to be evaluated for a transplant. I'll go on November 9 to start the evaluation process to be approved to be placed on the Organ Registry list, allowing me to receive a live or cadaver donor kidney.
I have a potential donor who will start her own evaluation once I'm on the approved list so, if all goes well, I could be looking at surgery in the spring. She's a great candidate in theory...doesn't drink, vegetarian, bikes every day, very healthy. My biggest concern is her passing the psychological exam but fingers crossed.
You guys have been here through thick and thin, so obviously I'll keep everyone updated through the whole process. Here we go!

Good luck with everything MHS. I hope this works out for you soon - would they start sending you to dialysis otherwise?

I wish you the best of luck MHS.

Re: Kidney Update (Cross Posted from Facebook)
Ive had family with almost any kidney problem you can mention. Dialysis to removal to transplants. One side of my wife's family has a type of cancer that kills kidneys and eyes. One of them has lived with no kidneys for a long long time somehow.I hope the best for you in your tough times and its over with soon and all is right again....even better actually.

Re: Kidney Update (Cross Posted from Facebook)
Oh yes, definitely. Having minimal kidney function means constant fatigue and illlness and kidney disease leads to so many other issues too. And of course, the whole Not Dying thing is a bonus. It would be even better if they would remove one of my bad kidneys since they cause a great deal of pain, but they prefer to just add the new one. I’m not sure where they think it will fit, given how large mine are but they’re the experts so I’ll have faith in them.gbasden wrote:We're all pulling for you! That plus it’s easier to add and attach than to remove and seal off and add and attach, especially when they are so huge and the removal would be a real shock to the body. They sometimes will go back in later to remove one after they’re fairly certain the new one isn’t being rejected.Daehawk wrote:Wait what? Wow. I guess if your's work a little its best to leave them?
