The Time Machine (1960): When H.G. Wells takes the time machine to 1940, he discovers WWII airplanes are outside dropping bombs with anti-aircraft guns firing at them, and fires burning in the distance. When he travels further into the future, he destroys the Morlock underworld by burning it with a torch. As he and the Eloi climb out to escape, it's smoking badly.
