Some great choices here, but Moliere takes the point by picking one of my favorite Christmas movies.

I'm going to go with Gunga Din. Set in Northwest Frontier India circa 1880, the climax of the film takes place in a Thuggee temple.

I considered choosing hentzau's entry, but I decided that if he really wanted it he would have given the correct name of the movie. :coffee:

But Melanie's past holds many secrets, including Jake (Josh Lucas), the redneck husband she married in high school, who refuses to divorce her. Bound and determined to end their relationship once and for all, Melanie sneaks back home to Alabama to confront her past, only to discover that you can take the girl out of the South, but you can't take the South out of the girl."

Ok, going obscure here with Rocket Gibraltar. The grandfather (played by Burt Lancaster, IIRC) gathers his family together for his birthday. When one of the grandkids asks him what he wants for his birthday, he says he wants a viking funeral. So, they find an old boat, fix it, he conveniently passes away, they steal his body from the grownups, and launch flaming arrows at his body in the boat. I may have some of the details wrong, I only saw it once, but the ending with the kids shooting flaming arrows at their granddad has stuck with me for over 15 years now.

A fine movie starring Casey Affleck as Lee Chandler, a man broken by having far too many funerals in his life.

i'll stick with Tombstone, which opens with Curly Bill's gang riding into a Mexican town and slaughtering everyone at a police officer's wedding in retribution for killing two of their fellow gang members.

Winner, since a funeral is the catalyst that gets the movie going.

First thing that popped into my mind was The Big Chill. Started with a funeral, and it seemed like they spent about half their time in bedrooms.
