Your non standard xmas faves
Without a doubt my number 1 alt xmas (if you will) song. So catchy.
What you got?

That's a great song, true, but it's not a Christmas song. It's a dating song with an awesome guitar riff.
There is no such thing as good Christmas music. There used to be, but the theme is played out. It's dead like Christmas is dead.

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass beg to differ. Oh, and Sia has a Christmas album that just dropped (available on Amazon Music for Prime members).

Re: Your non standard xmas faves
Without a doubt, Father Christmas by The Kinks. I heard this play over the PA system at Toys R Us once...No wonder they are going broke.
For a more traditional carol check out The Dickies version of Silent Night. Nothing says Xmas like a speed metal version of an old standard sung by a heroin addled singer.
Finally, if you really don't want to offend anyone and pay tribute to a great singer lost this year, there's a video of Greg Lake singing Do You Believe In Father Christmas at some church along with Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson.

Re: Your non standard xmas faves
Off the top of my head w/out looking for links here are some "new" Christmas songs.
Maybe this Christmas - Leigh Nash (and others)
Christmas in the snow - Marah
Joseph who Understood - The New Pornographers
Here's to Christmas - The Clumsy Lovers
Present Face - Garfunkle and Oates
Tinseltown - SheDaisy
Everything's gonna be cool this Christmas - the Eels (and others)
Let's Get Cozy - Three Day Threshold and Summer Villians
The Snows they melt the soonest - Cara Dillon
Rudy - The be good Tanyas
Toy Packaging - Sara Groves
Not on Christmas Eve - Boca Chika
Mrs. Clause aint got Nothing on me - Little Jackie
Coming Home - Ryan Tennis
The Earth Stood Still - The Future of Forestry
Uncle John - Jonathon Coulton and John Roderick
The Season - Elizabeth Morris
Jacob Marly - Ace Enders and Nik Bruzzese
I suppose you could take the same out on some of those that you took on Christmas Wrapping, but ...those are all as "Christmasy" as Let it Snow or Baby It's Cold Outside. You take one off this list and I can add another pretty easily. And I haven't even put up any covers of classic Christmas tunes.
Folks think Christmas music sucks because they hear lousy christmas music in the malls or on clearchannel. Listen in other places and you can find some pretty good stuff.

Good music is good music.
My point is that "Christmas" sucks.

My favorite Christmas carol that almost no one has ever heard: O Babe Divine by Edgar Pettman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo3UcC2Blb4
My favorite semi-obscure Christmas album is Noel by Joan Baez. I'm not the biggest fan of her particular voice, but all the arrangements are by Peter Schickele, which makes it all wonderful.

This years mix, Falling Like Forgiveness From the Sky is ready. It's not TC's mix, but it's what I do.
<a href=http://www.filedropper.com/2017 ... </a></div>
Note that several songs are not safe for either children or work. You won't like it all, but you may like some of it. I'll let you listen for a bit and post a track list later. At the end of Christmas, Jan 5-6. I will finish some liner notes and anybody that wants those will get them.
Yeah, I know a proper website would be a good thing. It didn't happen this year, let's hope it does in 2018!

Not sure if it fits the non-standard bucket, but our new favorite is Leslie Odom Jr.'s "Simply Christmas, Deluxe Edition."
I heard him interviewed on NPR about his role in Hamilton as Aaron Burr, and they mentioned he had a new Christmas album coming out. Definitely worth a listen. That guy's voice is other-worldly.
Check him out doing I'll Be Home For Christmas.

I've been thinking and I consider Felice Natividad by Jose Feliciano a non Christmas standard and I like it real well.

I love Sarah Mclaghlan's version of Joni Mitchell's River, and for that matter I love her whole Wintersongs album:
Also love I'll Be Home Christmas Eve by the Ennis Sisters (Technically a cover too, of a song by the late Ron Hynes)

Does it matter that I'm hotlinking to my own account?
I searched for a way to share it and that was the best I came up with.
