I've crossed the line I feared would be difficult - and it was. I suppose I must learn to trust the process and stick with what works. Regardless, this next 9 lbs would represent a significant victory as it would put me at my lowest weight in 18 years. I'm not saying that getting married made me fat, but there definitely seems to be an association with weight gain. Let's see what 7/27 brings.

The Excel file that has been tracking and graphing my weight for 13 years will no longer do so. Entering anything in any cell makes the program close without any message. Fortunately, this only affects the MS Office 2003 that created the file and has maintained it all those years -- Office 2007 handles it just fine on my other computer. Excel '03 can still create and save new files, so the program itself isn't munged, but that old file is its kryptonite all of a sudden.

I blame the latest Windows update. If I stop losing weight, it will be on Microsoft.

I'm finding that any weight I lose when I'm at home (where I work out and bring my lunch to work daily) ends up negated by my next road trip where I don't exercise at all and eat whatever is quick and/or close. Which is really bad, as I'm smack dab in the middle of a 12 out of 13 travel weeks. :(

Still, I'm down 5 lbs on the year, and I can tell I'm getting stronger and in better shape. So yay, I guess.

This morning's snap shot though is actually -36.2 lbs. The Week 19 numbers got skewed by having to go on travel for work early in the week, which messed with my schedule and required eating out at every meal. Lost weight every day since my return though. It's time to make the push to get to -40.0 lbs. I crossed the -30 lb barrier back in Week 13. My aim is to get there over the next two weeks by paying a little more attention to discipline.

I suppose it was going to happen sooner or later. Two days ago I was at my -1 lb target for this week. However, this morning I'm back to exactly where I was a week ago. I'm going to chalk it up to general weight fluctuations of +/- 1lb and press on for Week 18.

Impressive losses. I think I've finally found a diet I can stick to so hopefully I can post some impressive losses of my own. If nothing else my cholesterol should be really good.

I'm kind of bummed out as this is now two weeks in a row of no change. Sure, I'm not gaining, but I had been on the decline for 16 weeks. Maybe it's a plateau. Maybe I need to re-evaluate my menus and tighten things up.

That right there is damn hard, too. I applaud your progress, and hope you're able to sustain and conquer.

I lacked the strength and relapsed, shoving pizza and DQ blizzards into my body until I regained almost 10lbs. I've cut back but not fixed my dietary foul-up, now just being content with holding steady at -15lbs from the start of the year until I can get my head in the game again. All my parts are fighting it. If I can work down another 4lbs, I'll be back at my lowest weight since I was 23-ish(?).

At my highest peak of pillowtude, I was 295 and felt like a marshmallow. That was like 15 years ago. I still remember the soft, fluffy texture of my body when I pushed on it. I'm now at 230. Struggling to go lower. It doesn't help with my co-workers happily offer up tidbits like "Wow, you don't look that heavy at all" and "I would have never thought" ... I carry my weight well, I guess.

I'm already eating a fraction of was consuming ~6 months ago (volume and calories), so I'm more or less confused. My only conclusion is that I've been too loose with processed foods and carbs. While I'm still not consuming them in any great amount, I had been introducing token amounts back into my diet mainly as a way to make dinners easier. Nothing crazy - still watching portions and being more aware of processed foods now than before - but not a 100% avoidance like I was doing back in February and March. I'm certainly not binging on donuts, bagels or piles of french fries, and until writing that sentence, hadn't missed any of them. :(

After a blowout with my wife over the weekend about how I'm still too fat for intimacy, I'm reminded that I really should be doing better than just kind of counting calories in a vague kind of way. I had gained back maybe 5 or 6 pounds from my lowest weight when I slipped off the wagon and I've held it steady for weeks - neither climbing or falling.

I'm going to try and get back on the "plant-based" train and trim out all the processed foods. I just don't know if I'm mentally prepared to fight sugar & carb deprivation again.

She's been working her diet really hard, trying to get in shape for a marathon that may lead her to her first ultra-marathon which may lead her to a 100 mile marathon. As she gets more in shape, she's increasingly critical of my lack of shape. I get it. I'm just happy to get out and walk a few miles here and there, but I don't work out and don't take care of myself very well. She's killing herself for it and may be getting resentful.

I'm happy to report that the plateau has been smashed, and I think I figured out the problem. I'll know better if the trend continues into next week, but I think I wasn't eating enough. I know that sounds strange given the hardcore discussions we've had on calories in/calories out, but that was my biggest change. Of course, I'm not eating more crap, but I absolutely ate more vegetables and protein this week than the prior two. The other thing I did (as to ruin correlation and causation) is to flip around the size of the meals. For me, breakfast was the smallest, lunch mid-grade and dinner the largest. Now breakfast is mid-grade, lunch is the largest and dinner is the smallest. I'm going to hold to this pattern now for another week and see how it looks next Friday, but I'm feeling good.

We went out to celebrate my daughter's dance recital (35 dances spread across 5 two hour shows, sweet moses), and pretty much undid all of last week's efforts. But I should be able to unwind that in a couple of days.

Normally I'd be frustrated, but I'm actually pleased at the "no change" rating for this week. Why? Because this was a completely abnormal week in terms of eating - four dinners were consumed at restaurants, going above and beyond what I've been restricting myself to for the last 4+ months. The fact that I didn't blow up like a balloon, quite frankly, is nothing short of amazing. This coming week is going to be another mixed bag, but I'm at least confident that I can weather the dietary fluctuations and emerge on the other side at a point where I can simply return to the normal routine.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

So far this year I'm down 22lbs.

Still working calorie restriction, not upping the activity levels greatly - but doing more weekend outings.

Last year I got down to 188. I wanted to be 184 - 186. So was just about right. Then over winter I have gained back to 199. I am starting over.

I’m down 44.6 lbs at the moment for this year, but I don’t have my spreadsheet handy to update my weekly progress. We did have a week of no gain, and then another two pounds lost. So steady progress continues. I have had the replace all of my pants and shorts, and I won’t lie, it’s nice to not wear clown pants anymore.

I didn’t realize that there’s a point where even the jeans manufacturer is too ashamed to print the size on the outside, and I am no longer in that camp! Jeans waist size is down about 6 inches.

What I've learned over the last two weeks is that (for me) schedule is everything. And with out of state family visiting, lack of school for the kid, a 3 day convention, etc... being off schedule has made it extremely difficult to maintain dietary rigidity. While I'm happy that I didn't completely go off the rails, it's absolutely been a battle in comparison to what I'd been doing for the prior 4+ months. Of course it doesn't really end with numerous off-schedule activities coming up, so my focus now is to hold the proverbial line until September. For me, routine is critical and right now my entire schedule is chaos.

Also, the supermarket did not have bags of frozen green beans in stock this morning. I am not amused.

So my wife got a Bluetooth enabled scale a week ago.

Now my phone knows exactly how fat I am, and helpfully tells me how many calories I need to consume each day to maintain that weight. I suppose it at least gives me a hard number to stay underneath.

I'm back to where I was at the beginning of June, which kind of stinks. Still focused on holding the proverbial line here and just trying to get through the next month or so until I can get back on a regimented schedule.

Keep in mind that the beginning of June was a much better place than the beginning of February. :)

It turns out that one's traditional weight-loss tricks don't work anymore after one turns 60. Without taking heroic measures, this is just the body I'm going to have. I'm using this thread mostly for my mileage tally now.
