Looking for Rock/Pop/Electro Instrumentals

Post by Newcastle »

'Sup.

So I've been doing a lot of speed walking & light jogging of late. And I've been listening to quite a bit of music. At times I've found greater enjoyment listening to the instrumentals since it lets my mind wander and think more clearly. I've tried classical music, but that's hit or miss. There are some soundtracks which hit the mark (ie hans zimmer to name one). Basically I am looking for an instrumental song that's got a good beat, could be electronic, rock, pop or even classical.

Some songs in my current small repertoire:
Metallica - Orion
Rush - La Villa Strangiato

So anyone got any suggestions on any cool/great rock instrumental songs or even groups. I'll take your answers off the air.

Not sure how "metal" you're looking to go, but a couple suggestions if you're looking for instrumentals which are a littler harder and/or proggier:

- Cloudkicker
- Keith Merrow
- Scale the Summit
- Polyphia
- Animals as Leaders
- Pelican

If you're including stoner rock (and you should) I'd recommend Tab by Monster Magnet - it's a 33 minute instrumental. If you add the second track off that EP (25/Longhair), that's another 12 minutes of sludgy-stoner goodness. It's not going to "drive" a workout, but it'll definitely mentally take you elsewhere for 45 minutes. :D

I'd have to search for the names other than Sirius but I remember The Alan Parson's project having at least one instrumental track per album and possibly more.

So skimmed listened to parts of all of them. Will dive deeper into Polyphonia. Actually really enjoyed the lyndsie stirling & bond. Those sound like nice things to listen to while I am exercising.

Thanks all for dropping the suggestions.

I've recently tried finding a copy of Dream Window from the movie Fright Night. That guitar is fantastic. Alas, Amazon can't help me.

Genesis had a good instrumental song called The Brazilian on their Invisible Touch album.

This two hour mix is really nice in my humble opinion. Great motivation for putting one foot in front of the other (and isn't that what life is all about, anyway?) ... there is a link to the DJ's (Dense) SoundCloud offerings if you'd like to puzzle out what track is what

Alan Parsons is the first thing I think of and Pink Floyd are the second (for which AP often produced) APP's thing was to always have at least one instrumental blend in to another song on every album.

I'll second ELP for things like "The Nutrocker" and ELO who did "Fire on High" and "In the Halls of the Mountain King" among others.

I love me some Enya

Many swear by Rush, not my thing. I do like me some of Zeppelin's instrumentals though.

Boston had some, "Foreplay" being their biggest.

I'm totally spacing here. There are tons of more recent instrumentals I love but none are coming to mind.

Excellent. Love the responses. I will say that my initial listing of Metallica was probably a bit of a mistake without the following caveat: i am not a metal fan. I was introduced to Metalica at an early age but long ago drifted away from them. However, Orion has always been a song I've loved to listen to at various parts in my life. Its just so full of goodness.

Looking forward to listening to the suggestions. I did pick up Satriani's surfing w/ the alien album and the lindsey stirling's latest album (this will take a bit of adjustment i think).

Wonderful suggestions everyone.

Once you get hooked on Satriani and need more you MUST BUY the next to recommends -

Flying in a Blue Dream

Super Colossal

then...

Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards

Satriani is the coolest guitarist and has some of the coolest instrumentals on Planet Earth

IF Aliens ever wanted cool extraterrestrial music to listen to they would find it in Joe Satriani. His music has so much feeling in it you
can't help be feel it when you listen to it.

Probably because Orion is back from old original Metallica on the Master of Puppets album. Ahhh the good old days. I didn't fully give up on them though and still like a bit .MoP was in my first car :)

Rodrigo y Gabriela - Tamacun, Orion (Cover) - Classic flamenco guitar, metal/rock covers and original compositions
And So I Watch You From Afar - Set Guitars to Kill, A Little Bit of Solidarity goes a Long Way - Post-Rock/Math Rock
Dance With The Dead - Near Dark, Waves - Synthwave/Electronica with lots of screeching rock guitar (sounds like the soundtrack to an 80s movie)
Brothers in Arms from the Mad Max: Fury Road Sountrack, by Junkie XL.
Magic Sword - Uprising, In the Face of Evil - Maybe the best known synthwave group? The latter song was in one of the Thor: Ragnarok trailers, as well as the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Oh man, LM. I've been treating you like a music oracle, but that's disappointing. I've come to terms that many people don't get Rush's greatness but I didn't expect you to be one of them.

Rush has a bunch of instrumentals and they are all good.

I am in my own musical world (which has been too empty for a long time. :( ). My of the music I love is generally not so beloved by the people around me. I don't dislike Rush, I just don't get in to their instrumentals... or 2112  )

Quick update...the Satriani album I bought is scratching that itch nicely. When I grow tired of it, will reference this thread for further ideas. Again, thanks all.
