The county where I live is in the early stages of planning expanding a major road across an 8 mile stretch from the town I live in to the next town north. When it is done, it will have a positive impact on traffic flow in the area, but I expect this will take several years to complete (a similar stretch of road nearby is on year 3 of the widening project).
The county is soliciting volunteers to serve on a Community Advisory Group. Among the special interest groups they would like representation from is bicyclists, as the project will include installation of a multi-use path.
It seems like an interesting thing to volunteer for, and while I'm about to enjoy 6 months of relative freedom (mother-in-law comes next week for a 6 month enlistment), I have no idea how long this group would be in effect or how often they will convene (too often would be burdensome once I'm back to full-time kid duty). Anyone else do anything like this? Care to share the experience?
